It has been 25 years since the release of Gothic 1. As one of the first RPGs, this iconic open-world game is back to make history once more. While the core story remains the same (you get pushed into the Colony with no recollection of your past life and try to make it to the top from humble beginnings), a lot has changed since then. Explore this guide to learn everything from quest walkthroughs to beast hunting.

Main Quests

There are 6 chapters in the Gothic remake story. And each chapter consists of several main quests that drive the story’s progression. You begin the story as the Nameless Hero, who is thrown into the Colony. You have no memory of your past life since passing through the Colony’s magical barrier.

From now on, each decision influences the course of your Hero. Check out the quests below and click on whichever one you are stuck on to read a quick walkthrough.

Chapter 1: Welcome to the Colony

There are 3 factions to join in the Colony: 1. The Old Camp, 2. The New Camp, 3. The Swamp Camp. Think of this as your orientation course. Eventually, you have to join one of them, but you can explore for a while before making a decision, which I encourage you to do. Learn how to join each below.

Chapter 2: Minecrawlers’ Nest

Here, you join a Swamp Camp ritual investigation and explore the Old Mine to summon the Sleeper.

Chapter 3: Artifacts of Ancient Power

As the ritual fails, you join the New Camp Water Mages to find the Focus Stones all around the map.

Chapter 4: Xardas

Xardas is a rogue fire mage who turned into a necromancer. Find him in the Orc territory to defend the Camp’s peace.

Chapter 5: The Custodians of the Portal

Infiltrating the underground Orc city, you try to find the ancient sword Uriziel and use it to destroy the barrier’s defenses.

Chapter 6: The Sleeper’s Halls

The Hero goes down into the Sleeper’s Temple and faces the final boss to break the Magical Barrier surrounding the Colony.

  • The Sleeper’s Awakening
