Gothic Remake Gomez: Joining the Old Camp & Fight Him Later

In Gothic Remake, Gomez is the big bad of the Old Camp and pretty much the most powerful guy inside the Barrier. He has some valuable things that can be useful to you. Dealing with him is not that easy I know, but you’re not alone. Read my text and I hope it helps.
What You’ll Read:
Who Even Is Gomez
Gomez is the head honcho. The absolute ruler of the Old Camp and the leader of the Ore Barons.

He used to be a regular convict, but when the magical Barrier trapped everyone inside, he led a massive revolt. He and his crew killed all the king’s guards and took over the castle. Now, he’s the most powerful criminal inside the dome, controlling the valuable ore trade with the outside world.
Where to Find Him
Gomez hangs out in his castle in the inner ring of the Old Camp. But you can’t just waltz in.

The castle is in the middle of the camp, but the gate is guarded by a tough guy named Thorus. You need to earn your way inside first. And even then, getting an audience with Gomez himself is a whole other challenge.
Joining the Old Camp
You want to join the Old Camp, right? That means you want to become a Shadow, Gomez’s main group of operatives. Here’s how to do it:
- Talk to Diego: After the intro and that Bullit encounter, keep chatting with Diego until he offers to help you join the Old Camp.
- Speak to Thorus: Head to the Old Camp and talk to Thorus, the guard at the castle gate. He’ll explain that you need other Shadows to vouch for you.
- Gain the Shadows’ Favor: This is the main part. You have to do quests for several Shadows around the camp until they support you. Here are the people you need to help:
- Fingers: He wants you to steal Scatty’s ring.
- Dexter: He wants the “Cult’s Recipe” from the Swamp Camp.
- Whistler: He wants you to buy him a sword.
- Thorus: He has a quest called “Out of Sight” where you deal with a thief.
- Sly: He wants you to find a missing guard named Nek.
- Fisk: He wants you to hire a new “fence” (a shady merchant) in the New Camp.
- Scatty: You don’t even need a real quest from him. Just beat someone in a duel in the Arena.
- Complete Diego’s Test of Faith: Diego will send you into the Old Mine to find something. This is a key part of his trust test.
- Reach Level 5: You need to level up your character to at least level 5.
Impress Gomez
Once you’ve done all the prep, go back to Thorus. He’ll finally let you into the castle for a meeting with Gomez. One very important warning: Never tell Gomez you work for the leader of the Swamp Camp, Y’Berion. If you do, he’ll have you killed on the spot.
If you do all that, you’ll finish the “Admission to the Old Camp” quest and officially become a Shadow. You’ll get the “Gomez’ Paperboy” achievement and some gear as a reward.
Fighting Gomez: The Boss Battle
Eventually, you’ll have to face him, and that’s one of my favorite parts. You can’t complete the main story without dealing with the top dog.
This happens in Chapter 5 or 6, depending on your progression. After Xardas gives you the teleport rune as part of the main story
He’s a level 100 Ore Baron and two of his bodyguards protect him too, so it’s a tough battle. You’ll need good gear and strong combat skills to take him down.
He wields a powerful two-handed sword called Innos’ Rage (110 damage) and wears his own unique armor. This is a strong combo and makes the possible fight between you a really hard one.
How to Defeat Him
Before anything, make sure that you are prepared enough. Bring plenty of healing items and make sure your weapon and armor are upgraded as much as possible. Save your game before entering the throne room.
Gomez hits hard, so don’t try to trade blows. Use a fast weapon and combo him repeatedly so he doesn’t get a chance to swing back. If you’re struggling, come back when you’ve leveled up more and have better gear.
Note: As of Patch 1.0.1, Gomez is no longer lootable until Chapter 5. This means the old strategy of killing Gomez early in Chapter 1 no longer works. So don’t insist on killing him early.
A Trick: Deal with Bodyguards First
Scar and Arto can be problematic when you want to fight with Gomez. So before engaging Gomez, I recommend you to isolate and defeat Scar and Arto separately:
Wait until night when the castle occupants are asleep. Talk to Scar or Arto to separate them from the others, then attack them when they’re alone.
Note: Scar drops Scar’s Sword, the best one-handed sword in the game (85 damage, requires 70 Strength)
Loot Gomez

Anytime after defeating Gomez, loot his body to obtain:
- Gomez’ Key: unlocks his personal chest on the 2nd floor
- Innos’ Rage: one of the strongest two-handed sword in the game
- Ring of Invincibility: one of the best defensive accessories
Use Gomez’ Key to open the chest in his room (2nd floor, first door on the left with a red carpet). Inside, you’ll find the Ancient Ore Armor with Edge 90, Blunt 90, Point 25, Fire 25, Wind 15, Ice 15, and Energy 15 resistances. These stats make the Ore Armor one of the best armors in the game.
Go for Gomez
Gomez is the top one in the Old Camp. He’s the guy you need to impress to join his faction and the final boss you need to beat to finish the game. Watch your back, stay on his good side until you’re ready for a fight, and never mention the Swamp Camp. Good luck in the Colony.
