Gothic Remake Quentin: His Location & Rogues’ Camp Quest Guide

You’re looking for Quentin in the Gothic Remake. I know why, and I’ll get straight to the point. You either can’t find his camp in the maze-like northwestern canyon, or you already ran in, killed everyone, and now you’re stuck wondering why your quest is broken. Let me walk you through the whole mess and provide solutions.

Who Is Quentin?

In the new version of Gothic, Quentin is the leader of a group of outlaws hiding out in a hidden camp. Your job for the “Rogues’ Camp” quest is to find him, talk to him, and report back to whoever sent you. No killing required here.

Who Gives You the Quest?

First of all, this is a Chapter 3 side quest. So if you can’t find it in your journal yet, you haven’t reached the right point in the story. There are two ways to take the quest.

Old Camp route: If you joined the Old Camp, talk to Thorus. He gives you this quest after you complete “Joining the Warders” which itself becomes available at the start of Chapter 3. If Thorus doesn’t offer the Warder quest yet, progress further into Chapter 3 and check back.

New Camp route: If you didn’t join the Old Camp or can’t become a Warder, talk to Lee, found in a guarded room on the right side of the New Camp’s Residential Cave. He gives the quest directly.

How to Find Quentin

Here’s the simplest possible guide for you to find Quentin:

  • Step 1: Start at the Old Camp’s northern exit. Cross the bridge and stick to the path.
  • Step 2: Find the cave. You’ll see a cave entrance on a grassy mound. Go in.
  • Step 3: Navigate the caves and scaffolding. The path is pretty linear, but it’s crawling with outlaws. You can’t bribe or talk your way past many of them, so get ready to fight.
  • Step 4: Keep going. After the caves, you’ll pass a few more bandits and some wooden walkways. You’ll eventually spot a large waterfall.
  • Step 5: The final stretch. Follow the path to the left of the waterfall. Cross the bridge you see there.
  • Step 6: You’re there. Walk into the small hut just beyond the bridge, and a cutscene will play when you find him inside.

Important Note: The path to Quentin always starts from the Old Camp’s northern exit, even if you take the quest from the New Camp and Lee.

A Guide to the Rogues’ Camp Quest

Now you know the most important part, which is how to find Quentin and that’s the main challenge in the Rogues’ Camp Quest. But there are some other tips that help.

It’s important how you deal with Brannock. He’s a guard who’ll stop you in that cave and you’ve got a real choice to make then.

  1. The Fast Route (Violent): The simplest way to get past him is to pick a fight and kill him. It’s quick and gets the job done, but you’ll miss out on some extra content and rewards.
  2. The Smart Route (A Side Quest!): Instead of fighting, insist to Brannock that you want to go through the door he’s guarding. Keep pushing through dialogue until he offers you the “Bar the Truth” quest. Accept it. Head to the Old Camp castle, take the right-side path from the entrance, go down the ladder at the end, and find the locked prison door. You’ll need either Lockpicking skill to open it directly, or you can pickpocket the key from one of the nearby Warder guards if your Dexterity is high enough. Free Arlin, return to Brannock, and he’ll let you through without a fight (plus you’ll get an extra reward from Arlin later).

A Tip: If Thorus gave you this quest, you can do the peaceful “Bar the Truth” route. But if Lee was your quest giver, you might not be able to get into the Old Camp prison, so just kill Brannock and move on.

The Quest-Killing Mistake You Made

The game will let you stumble upon the Rogues’ Camp and fight everyone there long before you ever get the official quest to do so. If you kill Quentin or his crew before you have the mission in your journal, you permanently break the “Rogues’ Camp” quest. Unlike, for example when you face bullit, here you have much more free will and this may cause problems.

It’s terrible because there is no fix for this right now. Your only option is to reload a save from before you attacked the camp, or leave it completely alone until the quest is active. The developers are working on patches, but for now, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

What Happens After You Find Quentin?

Once the cutscene plays, your job is done. Make your way back to whoever gave you the quest. If Thorus sent you, return to him in the Old Camp castle area. If Lee sent you, head back to the New Camp and find him in the guarded room on the right side of the Residential Cave. Report what you found and the quest closes.
Reward: 1,500 XP from either quest giver.

The Mystery: Who Was Quentin in the Original Game?

For old-school fans, Quentin has an interesting history. In the original game, he existed, but had no proper questline. I read the wiki and they say that he and others in his camp may be remnants of cut content. Meaning planned quests around him were likely unfinished before the game shipped.
In the Remake, he finally has a proper role with a full quest. Whether Alkimia specifically used the original cut content as a direct blueprint isn’t confirmed, but the result is that an NPC who was essentially a loose end in 2001 now has a meaningful place in the story.

FAQs

I killed Quentin before I got the quest. Now what?

Bad news. You permanently broke the “Rogues’ Camp” quest. There’s no fix. Reload an older save or start over. Sorry.

Do I actually have to kill Quentin?

No. You just find him and report back to Thorus or Lee. That’s it. No fighting required.

What level should I be before going?

Aim for at least level 8 to 10. The route has multiple Snappers that can easily kill a low-level character, and the caves are full of outlaws. Bring healing potions and make sure you have at least one weapon skill trained before attempting this.

I can’t find Quentin in the hut. Where else could he be?

If Quentin isn’t in the hut beyond the bridge, check the caves nearby because he sometimes wanders. If you still can’t find him, sleep 12 in-game hours to reset his position and check again.
