Joining the Mercenaries in Gothic Remake Myxir Quest Guide

If you want to join the elite Mercenaries at the New Camp, you need to impress Lee, their “Boss”. This starts “Joining the Mercenaries” quest, which is no easy task. Gothic Remake Myxir location is where most players struggle. But that’s only the beginning. At some point, you even have to lockpick underwater! As if dry lockpicking was not enough. But don’t worry. Keep reading to learn how to find Myxir, solve the Shipwreck lockpick puzzle, and how to become a Mercenary.

How to Start Joining the Mercenaries Quest

You cannot just join the New Camp elite squad right away. You need to finish Chapter 2 first. Make sure you work as a bandit for Lares during the Minecrawler’s Nest chapter. Once you head back from the Swamp Camp, Jarvis will stop you at the entrance. He tells you that Lee wants to talk.

Complete the Brotherhood’s Plan quest with Lares before you visit him. After that, head to the back of the camp near the Mage’s quarters to find Lee. You can check my Gothic Remake Lee Location guide to learn his exact location. He promises to recruit you if you do a favor for a water mage named Myxir first.

Quest Requirement: Diving Skill From Homer

Do not run off to help Myxir just yet. You have to dive deep into the ocean for this quest. And even have to lockpick underwater! Find Homer’s location on the bridge inside the New Camp before you leave. He can train you to hold your breath underwater for much longer.

Gothic Remake Myxir Location

Follow the river to the far east side of the map to reach the lighthouse. Take the path that splits off to the right. Follow it until you see a trail going down toward the beach. You will find Myxir standing about halfway down the path.

Defeating Fire Lizards

Head down to the old shipwreck. Six Fire Lizards guard this area. Their fire-breath attack deals enough damage to melt your health bar. You can stay away from them and let Myxir deal with them using ice magic. Once they stop moving, pull out your bow or sword and steal the kill. (No judging!)

Pro-tip: I highly recommend checking the ship debris on the sand before you jump in the water. Unlock the cabin door to score some solid loot. You will grab the Recipe of Seaforest Brew and an Armor Amulet. Equip that amulet right there. It is highly potent and gives you a +15 bonus to both Edge and Blunt stats.

Finding the Shipwreck Source of Magic

Myxir orders you to search the water for the magical disturbance. He has no idea what it is. It could be a weapon or a water demon. Dive in and swim straight toward the sunken ship mast. Swim down to the upper (sometimes lower) deck area. You will spot a locked Myxir chest sitting at the back of the helm.

The Shipwreck Chest holds a Ball Lightning scroll, two lab flasks, two steel, three lockpicks, and the book for Myxir. Grab “The Old Ways of the Druids” book from the chest. Swim back to the surface fast before your air runs out. Hand Myxir the book on the shore and receive +300 Experience Points.

Now, return to Lee in the New Camp to get a well-earned +700 XP. Lee officially recruits you into the Mercenaries and hands over your fresh armor set. Congratulations! You have joined the Mercenaries. You can also go to Torlof in the New Camp to upgrade your gear. He usually waits right below Gorn’s location.

Joining the Mercenaries Quest Dialogue Bug Fix

The Gothic Remake gets extremely buggy once during Chapter 3. When you finish the entire quest and return to Lee, he refuses to give you any new dialogue. I researched the community, and this is the only Fix I found:

You must speak to NPCs in an exact order to prevent this lockup. Talk to Thorus first. Speak with Fletcher next. Talk to Saturas last. Reload an older save if you already broke the sequence.

Go straight back to the Old Camp right after escaping with Milton. Trigger the Bloodwyn scene immediately. Make Thorus exile you before you ever approach the Water Mages. If all else fails, just keep pushing the questline until the game eventually resets your progress. Hope this helps.

And that’s how you find Myrix and complete the Joining the Mercenaries quest. If you have more questions, write them in the comments below.

FAQ

Can you join the Mercenaries before Chapter 3?

No. You must finish Chapter 2 first. You spend that chapter as a bandit for Lares.

Where do you find Myxir on the map?

Follow the river to the far east side of the map. Take the right path near the lighthouse. Myxir waits halfway down the trail that drops to the old shipwreck beach.

What happens if you run out of breath during the dive?

You die. Talk to Homer at the New Camp before you start this quest. He teaches you how to hold your breath longer.
