In the harsh world of the Colony, survival depends on more than a sharp blade and sturdy armor. Gothic remake Alchemy is an essential crafting skill that provides healing potions, mana restoration, temporary buffs and powerful permanent stat increases.

Although many potions can be looted from enemies or purchased from merchants, learning to brew your own offers significant advantages.

As you progress through the game, crafted elixirs become one of the most effective ways to maximize your character’s potential. This guide covers everything you need to know, including alchemy trainers required ingredients, alchemy labs and every craftable recipe.

Gothic Remake Alchemy Recipes

While Gothic Remake features 25 different potions, only 10 can be crafted at an alchemy lab. The remaining 15 (including standard permanent Strength and Dexterity potions, Orc Medicine and Quick Healing potions) can only be found as loot or purchased from merchants.

The highest-tier craftable potions require rare monster drops. They are some of the most valuable recipes in the game.

Pro Tip: Alchemy ingredients can become difficult to acquire during the mid-game. After gaining access to the Water Mages, seek out Riordian. He sells herbs and empty bottles in large quantities.

List of Gothic Remake Alchemy Teachers and Trainers

Before you can brew potions, you must learn the Alchemy skill from a qualified trainer. Available instructors vary by faction and location:

  • Cor Kalom and Baal Cadar: Found in the Swamp Camp, these trainers offer the most extensive alchemy training in the game. They are ideal for players focusing on alchemy or magic. As an added bonus, the Swamp Camp provides unlimited mana regeneration through swampweed smoking.
  • Cronos: Located in the New Camp, Cronos teaches the fundamentals of alchemy and is a solid choice for most characters (requirements: +1 Max Mana: 1 LP · +5 Max Mana: 5 LP)
  • Damarok: An Alchemy trainer found inside the Fire Mages’ quarters within the Old Camp castle. He teaches you alchemy for 10 LP and 100 Ore.

How to Find Alchemy Teachers in Gothic Remake

Here is a complete guide for finding every alchemy teachers in Gothic Remake:

Cor Kalom location

Located in his large, heavily guarded laboratory upper terrace in the Swamp Camp. He acts as the camp’s chief alchemist.

Baal Cadar Location

He can be found on the lower rings of the Swamp Camp, usually instructing novices. You may need to gain his favor before he opens his shop and dialogue tree.

Cronos Location

You can find him in the New Camp, deeper inside the cavern. He stands near the center of a large stone circle with a glowing blue/purple magical light

Damarok Location

Situated in the temple wing of the Old Camp Castle. You must gain access to the inner castle courtyard (joining the Guards or Fire Mages) to reach him safely.

How to Learn Alchemy in Gothic Remake

Learning alchemy follows a simple progression:

  1. Learn the Skill: Spend Learning Points (LP) with an Alchemy trainer.
  2. Find an Alchemy Lab: Potions can only be brewed at an alchemy lab. There are 16 labs scattered throughout the Colony.
  3. Gather Basic Materials: Every recipe requires a Lab Flask and either Water or Pure Alcohol as its liquid base.
  4. Collect Herbs: Different potions require different plants. Mild Healing Herbs are useful throughout the early game, while Raven Herbs are especially valuable for mages.

Your first recipe should be the Essence of Healing. Requiring only Water, a Lab Flask and a Mild Healing Herb, it provides an inexpensive source of healing and remains useful throughout the early stages of the game.

    But most importantly, acquiring the recipes — literally the only other step about actually learning alchemy — is not mentioned, let alone expanded upon with locations and conditions for getting them.
