Gothic Remake Uriziel Guide: How to Charge This Legendary Sword

Uriziel can be one of the best two-handed swords in Gothic 1 Remake. You find the sword from the Sleeper Temple during Chapter 5’s main quest The Dreamer’s Nightmare, but it arrives in your hands drained of its ancient power.
This guide covers the Uriziel charging quest where you must restore the sword’s magic using the New Camp’s ore pile. Completing this quest turns a dull artifact into one of the most devastating weapons in the game. So don’t skip that and follow my guide.

How to Charge Uriziel
Dealing with Uriziel is confusing. So I explain the process step by step and as simply as possible, hope it helps:
Step 1: Talk to Xardas About the Sword
Go back to Xardas at his tower with the Strange Sword from the Sleeper Temple. The gemstones found with it are what once held the power. He converts them into a rune that can hold a charge again. He then prepares a charging formula and explains what you need to restore the blade: a massive source of magical energy and a mage to speak the formula.
What to do next: Travel to the New Camp and find Milten.
Step 2: Find Milten Near the Water Mages’ Cave

Milten is found near the Water Mages’ cave in the New Camp. Approach him and explain the plan. He’ll agree to speak the charging formula over the ore pile.
What to do next: Talk to Gorn before proceeding to the ore pile.
Milten Not Appearing? Some players say they can’t find him near the Water Mages. If this happens to you too, sleep for 12 in-game hours to reset his position, then check if he’s stuck in the tunnel. After finding him, escort him closely (he tends to get stuck again if you move too far ahead).
Have you encountered this? Let us know in the comments.
Step 3: Recruit Gorn to Distract the Guards
Find Gorn in the New Camp and ask for his help. He’ll agree to distract the guards at the bridge so you and Milten can reach the ore pile undetected.

What if you skip Gorn? There is a guard waiting at the bridge above the ore pile. If Gorn isn’t distracting him, you can pay him some Ore to let you pass, or knock him out. However, skipping Gorn entirely may leave Milten stuck at the guard’s position, so using Gorn’s distraction is what I do.
Step 4: Escort Milten to the Ore Pile

After speaking to Gorn, return to Milten and tell him Gorn is ready. He will then lead you to the ore pile beneath the New Camp. As I said, you should stay close to Milten because he is known to get stuck if you move too far ahead, particularly near the bridge guard.
Step 5: Perform the Ritual & Deal with Saturas
Once you reach the ore pile, talk to Milten to begin the ritual. Saturas, the leader of the Water Mages, will appear and confront you before the ritual completes.

Whether you can talk him down peacefully depends on your earlier interactions with him. If you were truthful with Saturas in previous chapters, he will stand aside and allow the ritual to proceed. If you lied to him earlier in the story, he is more likely to remain hostile and the confrontation may not resolve peacefully.
Choose dialogue that explains why you need the sword and that the Sleeper is the greater threat. Do not attack him unless left with no option.
Warning: Once Uriziel is recharged, the rest of the New Camp becomes hostile to you immediately. So Milten will tell you to teleport out at once. Do not linger and just use any teleport rune you have to exit the area as soon as possible.
Step 6: Return to Xardas

Make your way back to Xardas. He will confirm that Uriziel is now fully charged and explain how to wield its power against the Sleeper. After that the quest will be completed.
Is It Even Worth It? I say yes and here is why. You see Uriziel Stats below:
| Stat | Value |
| Blade Damage | 90 |
| Fire Damage | 40 |
| Energy Damage | 20 |
| Ice Damage | 20 |
| Wind Damage | 20 |
| Total Elemental Damage | 100 |
| Strength Requirement | 30 |
FAQs
Can I fail this quest?
The quest cannot be permanently failed, but it can soft-lock in certain situations. Most commonly if Milten’s position becomes bugged and cannot be reset by sleeping. If this happens, there is unfortunately no in-game fix (for now) and you may need to reload an earlier save.
What happens if I kill the guards instead of using Gorn’s distraction?
The Water Mages will become permanently hostile. This locks you out of future dialogue, potential quests, and any remaining interactions with that faction. So don’t do that.
Does my camp affiliation affect this quest?
No. Whether you are aligned with the Old Camp, New Camp, or Swamp Camp, the quest plays out the same way and Gorn will help you regardless.
Is Uriziel the best weapon in the game?
It depends on what you’re fighting. Uriziel’s 90 blade plus 100 total elemental damage is impressive on paper, but elemental damage is reduced by enemy resistances, so the effective total is often lower than it appears. Innos’ Rage at 110 blade damage tends to deal more reliable damage against heavily armored or elemental-resistant enemies.
Why is Level 25+ recommended for this quest?
By level 25, you should have enough health and combat ability to handle the quest enemies. More importantly, you need 30 Strength to wield Uriziel once it is charged.
Why do all the Water Mages turn hostile after the ritual?
Draining the ore pile is an irreversible act that destroys the Water Mages’ most valuable resource and their entire plan for escaping the colony.
Can I go back to the New Camp after charging Uriziel?
Technically yes, but all Water Mages will attack on sight. Finish any New Camp quests, trading, or training before beginning this quest.
What if I have no teleport rune when the ritual completes?
Stock up before starting this quest. Once the ritual ends and the New Camp turns hostile, lingering without a quick exit puts you in serious danger. Teleport runes can be purchased from mages or found as loot throughout the game world. If you have none, you will need to fight your way out of the New Camp entirely, which is possible but significantly harder than simply teleporting.
