Gothic Remake Nyras: Location & The Focus Stone Quest

Nyras is one of the NPCs in Gothic Remake and he is hard to find for some players (even for me at the first try). So I’ll guide you to find him in the easiest way. Also, the quest of The Focus Stone is related to him and I’ll explain how to complete that.

Where to Find Nyras

You can find him in two key locations during the game, both related to the Swamp.

From the Swamp Camp Entrance: After receiving “The Focus Stone” quest from Y’Berion in Chapter 2, Y’Berion wants you to seek out Nyras for assistance. You’ll find Nyras waiting for you near the entrance of the Swamp Camp. He leads you north to the cliff site.

From the Ocean Cliff: After you follow Nyras to the Focus Stone site, you’ll find him again at the end of the cliff, overlooking the ocean.

Many NPCs are in the game because they’ve been made for quests. Nyras’s related quest is the Focus Stone.

The Focus Stone Guide

This quest begins after completing Y’Berion quest. You’ll receive it after continuing to speak with Y’Berion in the Swamp Camp temple.

The steps to take:

  • Meet Nyras: After Y’Berion tasks you to retrieve the Focus Stone, return to the main gate of the Swamp Camp. As I said, Nyras will be waiting for you. Talk to him, and he will give you the Cliff Route Map.
  • Follow Nyras: He will lead you to the Focus Stone site, up at the north cliff. He’ll clear the way for you. However, you’d better fight enemies to protect him, as he can die in battle. If he dies (by enemies or by you), you can use the Cliff Route Map to find the location yourself (it becomes a bit harder to find the way).
  • The Focus Stone: After reaching the site, you go for the stone, but you’re pushed back by a magical barrier. The Strange Amulet you possess destroys the barrier, and Nyras is able to pick up the stone.
  • Defeat Nyras: After the cutscene, Nyras becomes hostile, saying he should be the one to deliver the stone, and attacks you. You must defeat him to get the Focus Stone back. (Veteran Tip: You can attack Nyras immediately after the cutscene ends, before talking to him, to get the upper hand.)

Take the Focus Stone from Nyras to Y’Berion. Give him the Focus Stone to complete the quest.

Rewards:

750 XP and Amulet of Flames (if you asked Y’Berion for a reward at the END of the quest).

After giving the Focus Stone to Y’Berion, he will send you to Cor Kalom to begin the next quest, The Almanac.

Who Is Nyras in the New Version?

In the Gothic 1 Remake, Nyras is portrayed as a novice of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper. He is a deeply religious follower who firmly believes that the Sleeper will show him and the other members of the Brotherhood the path to freedom.

This conviction ultimately leads to his downfall when he is corrupted by the Sleeper’s influence after touching the Focus Stone.

The Nyras Prologue Demo

The Nyras Prologue was a standalone demo for the Gothic 1 Remake, still available on PC via Steam. It was hot before and still some curious players like to try it. I recommend you play it too, it may help you understand Nyras more and go deeper into the world of Gothic.

In this demo, you step into the role of Nyras (not Hero), a newly convicted prisoner who has just been thrown into the Colony.

The demo was set before the main events of the full game, showing Nyras’s early days in the Colony. It was a limited experience set in the starting area, blocked off by a landslide.

The prologue features approximately one hour of gameplay. You can explore, talk to NPCs, and complete small quests for rogues Drax and Ratford to earn a place at their campfire.
