Gothic Remake Aaron’s Chest Quest: How to Lure the Guard and Walk Away Richer

Stumbled upon Gothic Remake Aaron and his chest in the Old Mine and not sure what to do? This Gothic guide walks you through the full quest step by step, including a clever trick to loot the chest and pocket extra ore on top. Handing everything over to Snipes might seem like the easy way out, but if you read until the end, you’ll see there’s a much more profitable play.

Who is Aaron?

Aaron is a guard in the upper parts of the Old Mine, protecting a chest from guys like Snipes. Not a very charming or decent person in general but thankfully you don’t see him that much through the game.

Gothic Remake Aaron Location

Aaron’s Chest is located inside the Old Mine. Make sure you have a torch equipped before you head in. It’s dark enough that you’ll be walking blind without one.

Once inside, follow the tunnel and turn right at the end. From there, head downward. A short way ahead you’ll spot an elevator cage, jump onto its roof, then drop down to the ground and go left.

Continue heading deeper down and take the left path when it splits. When you reach a wider open area, you’ll find Snipes on the right and Aaron on the left.

Aaron’s Chest Quest Solution

Approach Snipes first and start a conversation. Choose this dialogue option:

  • You look as though you’re about to say something.

He’ll ask you to lure Aaron away from his post so he can pick the chest lock. This unlocks the Aaron’s Chest side quest.

How to Lure Aaron Away

Now head over to Aaron, the guard standing on the left.

Work through the conversation in this order:

  • What’s your job here?
  • (Lure Aaron away)
  • Why would he tell me? Go ask him yourself.

Aaron will leave his post. Head back to Snipes to collect your reward.

The Profitable Move: Loot the Chest and Sell the Key Back

When you return to Snipes, he’ll hand over your 10 ore nuggets, but he’ll also offer you the key to Aaron’s Chest for 30 nuggets. This is where it gets interesting.

I highly recommend buying the key. Here’s why: you can loot the chest yourself and then sell the key back to Aaron for 20 ore nuggets, recovering most of what you spent.

Continue the conversation with Snipes in this order:

  • Aaron’s gone. You owe me ten nuggets.
  • Give me that key. (Buy key)

If you’d rather wrap up the quest here without buying the key, choose the other dialogue option instead.

What’s Inside Aaron’s Chest?

Head to the chest. It’s on your left, across from where Aaron was standing. Inside you’ll find:

  • 7 Lockpicks
  • 1 Healing Scroll
  • 1 Beer
  • 9 Ore Nuggets

How to Sell the Key Back to Aaron

Grab your torch and head further down into the mine. At the next floor, look for a ladder on your right and climb down.

Turn right and you’ll find Alberto and Ian talking over a map. Aaron is there too.

Walk up to Aaron and wait through his threats (they’re just bluster). Once he’s done, choose:

  • Is there a chance you’ve lost the key to your chest?

He’ll offer you 20 ore nuggets for the key. Accept it, hand it over, and the quest is complete.

With this approach you looted Aaron’s Chest for free, earned 10 ore from Snipes, bought the key for 30 nuggets, sold it back for 20, kept everything inside the chest, and finally 150 XP. A clean profit all around.
