Gothic Remake Adanos Trial Guide: Location and Puzzle Solution

Adanos is one of the three deities in Gothic and solving his trial is key to becoming a water mage. We will delve into the rich lore surrounding Adanos in the Gothic Remake and provide a step-by-step solution to his sacred trial. Whether you want to deepen your understanding of the game’s lore or are currently struggling to overcome the Trial of Adanos, this article has you covered.

Gothic Remake Adanos Location

Before you can solve the puzzle, you must first get to the temple itself, a journey I consider the most difficult phase of the quest. Begin by heading to the location marked on the map.

Trial of Adanos Solution Walkthrough

Passing the trial of Adanos is probably the most important part of how to become a Water Mage in Gothic Remake. In most versions of the game, there are two requirements for starting this trial:

  • You must be a Mercenary for New Camp.
  • You must have unlocked the “Initiation into the Circle of Water.” quest.

Saturas, the esteemed leader of the Water Mages in the New Camp gives you this mission.

There are two common ways to reach the entrance of the temple. You can either start from the beach or the broken bridge nearby. If you choose the beach, you just have to swim from there to where I marked on the map. If you choose the broken bridge, position yourself carefully and jump into the sea, taking extra caution to avoid the treacherous jagged rocks below. Once in the water, swim in a straight line until you spot an ancient structure carved into the side of the marine cliff.

You will need to go through an underwater cavern to reach the temple, but don’t worry, you can manage this even if you haven’t acquired formal diving techniques from Homer. Conveniently, there is a crucial air pocket along the route.

Once submerged, turn right, go to the surface briefly to replenish your oxygen, and go forward. At the far end of the chamber, dive once more to pass through the underwater doorway, then turn left and follow the corridor.

Halfway through this corridor, you will reach the air pocket. Surface to catch your breath, then submerge again to continue your path. Following this path will finally grant you access to the heart of the temple.

Temple’s Puzzle Explained

When you enter the temple, you will notice a central lever and two opposing stone pillars positioned on the left and right sides of the chamber. Pulling the lever causes water to rise within the right pillar; pulling it a second time triggers the water to flow from the right pillar into the left one. Your objective mirrors the divine mandate of Adanos himself: you must perfectly equalize the water levels between both columns.

How to Solve Temple Puzzle

Pull the lever and monitor the right pillar carefully. When the fourth unit was filled and started rotating, pull the lever again.

Precise timing is very important here. If your timing is correct, simply wait a moment for the water to automatically distribute itself from the right column into the left.

If your timing was incorrect and you pull the lever sooner or later than you should have, don’t worry. There’s another lever next to the basin in the center of the chamber. When you pull that, the water in both pillars will be emptied and you can do the puzzle again.

When two units of each pillar is filled with water, you should see a blue light filling the temple. Once the atmosphere shifts and the flames change color, the trial is complete. You may then return to Saturas to officially become a Water Mage.

Gothic Remake Adanos Lore: The God of Balance Explained

Unlike many contemporary RPGs, the universe of the Gothic Remake lacks a traditional creation myth. The two primary deities, Innos and Beliar, have always existed. Innos is the god of fire, order, and civilization, whereas Beliar governs chaos, darkness, and transformation.

The canonical Gothic lore tells us that these two opposing forces inevitably clashed in eternal warfare. To prevent this cataclysmic conflict from utterly destroying the universe, Innos divided himself and created Adanos, the great mediator who took his stand between them to restore harmony. The very ground upon which Adanos stood became the world itself.

While players might initially perceive Innos as the “good” god and Beliar as the “evil” god, the reality is far more complicated: excessive order causes tyranny, while unchecked chaos results in absolute anarchy. Therefore, the ultimate duty of Adanos is to maintain the balance between these two extremes. His followers, the Water Mages, serve as his primary instruments in the mortal realm. By following the steps mentioned above, you can become a Water Mage and enter the circle of his followers.

The levers in Adanos Temple aren’t working. Why?

The reason probably is that you haven’t finished the conversation with Saturas. Go to him and finish your conversation to acquire “Initiation into the Circle of Water.” quest.
