Gothic Remake Guy: His Location & What He Gives

At the Colony. Everyone wants to beat you up or scam you. But there’s one guy who’s actually nice. His name is Guy (his parents weren’t much creative in naming), and he’s your ticket to a much easier start. I’ll show his exact location and his role in the game.
What You’ll Read About Guy:
Who Is Guy and How to Find Him
Guy in Gothic Remake is a Digger who lives in the Old Camp (where that Bullit bullies you at first) and spends his time in the arena district. You’ll find him in the upper arena area, not far from an NPC named Kirgo.

He has a pickaxe on his back, and you can often see him cheering at fights above the arena. During the daytime, you’ll find him sitting on a bench near the fire, right in front of his house.
To find him, simply pass the cook Snaf and follow the path up toward the arena. It’s a very short walk from the main entrance of the Old Camp.
What Guy Gives You
Here’s the breakdown of everything Guy does for you.
A Free Hut and Safe Storage
This is the main reason I seek out Guy. You can ask him about getting your own hut, and he’ll tell you a vacant one is now available. He’ll direct you to a shack opposite the arena with a very distinct red awning.
Simply go inside, and it’s yours immediately. There’s no fee, no quest requirement, and no one will bother you there. The hut contains a bed you can use to rest and, most importantly, a chest for storing items safely.
The Forgotten Recipe Quest
Inside the chest of your new hut, you’ll also find a note that starts “The Forgotten Recipe” side quest. Just take the note to the camp’s chef, Snaf, who is standing by a cauldron near the castle gate. He’ll ask you to find ingredients like Scavenger meat, Solanaceae herbs, onions, carrots, potatoes, and water.
Once you have the ingredients, you can cook the stew at any unoccupied cauldron to complete the quest and get 100 XP.
Part of “The Vanished Warder” Quest
This quest is started by Sly in the Old Camp. To find a missing guard named Nek, you’ll need to gather clues by speaking to several NPCs. Guy is one of those people. Talking to him is a key step that eventually leads you to Nek in a cave outside the camp’s south gate.
Pro-Tips for Your First Talk with Guy
Talk to him as your first stop in the Old Camp. The free hut with safe storage is one of the best early-game benefits you can get.
Don’t skip his dialogue (the mistake I made). He’ll tell you useful, unbiased information about the three major factions, which is great for deciding who to join.
And if he is not there, wait until daytime. NPCs in the Gothic Remake have daily routines, and Guy is only found sitting outside his house during the day.
FAQs
Is the hut really free?
Yes. No tricks, no payments. Just walk in and it’s yours.
Why can’t I find Guy?
He’s in the upper arena area of the Old Camp, behind the main fighting pit. He has a pickaxe on his back. If he’s not there, wait until daytime, as NPCs have daily routines.
Does Guy give any other important quests?
His main contribution is pointing you to the free hut, which contains the note for “The Forgotten Recipe” quest. He also plays a small role in “The Vanished Warder” quest chain by providing information.
