Gothic Remake Lares Location in the New Camp
If Mordrag just dropped you off, you might assume the rice farmer building is the main hub. It is not. Don’t waste your time searching around the fields for Lares. You have to push further inside.
Once you are past the entrance, run straight up the path and talk your way past the two guards (one called Jarvis).
Keep going straight and cross the wooden bridge. Do you see a tavern nearby? Don’t go there! Instead, turn left into the massive clearing before. You should see a massive cave. This is the actual New Camp.
Most people claim Lares is in the back left of this cave. That’s misleading. If you go too far back, you will hit the restricted mage area. Lares is actually located down the very first path on your left as you go downhill. Go upstairs and pass the two guards. Lars’s house is just up there.
How to Get Past Rosco to Reach Lares
Once you walk up the stairs, you will run into Rosco, Lares’s personal guard. There are two ways to get past him:
1. The Standard Way: Simply tell him that Mordrag sent you. That gets you through the door, and you are finally face-to-face with Lares.
2. The Charm Way (More XP): This is my favorite because it’s more fun and gives you extra XP. You can charm Rosco to get past. But you have to get the charm spell before all of this. In any case, you can check out the charm spell location below.
How to Join the New Camp Faction
Before finding Lares, you need some prerequisites. Joining the New Camp takes serious effort. You have to run all over the map and do endless quests to prove yourself to these thieves and mercenaries, commanded by Lee.
Getting Mordrag’s Ring
Do not walk to the camp alone. Finish a few Casting Shadows quests in the Old Camp and Old Mine first. Then bother Thorus for work until he hands you the Out of Sight quest. He wants you to get rid of Mordrag. Talk to Mordrag about his messenger gig instead. He will offer to escort you to the New Camp.
Take this deal. He slaughters all the monsters on the path, and you get all the free XP. Those monsters actually respawn later in Chapter 1. You can kill them again to double-dip the XP. Mordrag gives you his ring when you finally arrive. This starts the Admission to the New Camp quest.
All Lares Quests
Once you find Lares’ house, he will explain the rules and hand you an entry quest. He specifically points you toward a Swamp Camper named Baal Isidro and his swampweed stash.
Your ultimate goal is to win over Lares and the Rice Lord. Make sure you find the Rice Lord and Lefty in the front area for extra tasks. You need to finish these five side quests to officially join up:
