Gothic 1 Remake Caine Guide: How to Finish the Lost Apprentice Quest

You have to locate Caine to finish the Gothic 1 Remake the Lost Apprentice quest. You must track his path from the Swamp Camp to the flooded tunnels of the old mine. Keep reading the Gothic Remake Caine walkthrough below to find out how to start and complete the quest. Also, don’t miss out on the pictures. They will help you a lot.

How to Start the Lost Apprentice Quest

The Lost Apprentice quest begins deep inside the Swamp Camp. Caine is Cor Kalom’s apprentice at the Swamp CampSpeak with Cor Kalom to start the quest. As soon as you step outside his chambers, start a conversation with the nearby Templar. He provides the initial clue for Caine’s general location.

You should start looking for him by heading down toward the lower level of the camp and locating Caine’s hut. You will know you are in the right spot when you spot these two NPCs (Nyras & Novice) standing together.

Talk to Nyras first. He confirms that Caine’s camp is located in this area. Once the dialogue finishes, keep going straight forward and walk past the guy smoking a hookah on the ground. You will find his hut (looking a bit different with some spooky painting on the floor) in the back right corner.

Go inside and look around for loot. You will find a drawing of the Abandoned Mine on the right. This is your first major clue/treasure map. Pick it up. Go back outside and have another conversation with Nyras about the literal meaning of this new piece of artwork you found.

After talking to Nyras, you should speak with Lester for the next clue. You will find him all the way back at the beginning of the swamp area, just past the entrance guards. It’s best to answer everyone honestly when choosing dialogues to gain their trust.

Once you’re finished talking to Lester, you’ll know where to go: the Abandoned Mine. (Duh!)

Since you have heard a lot of voices so far, you can also check out our Gothic 1 Remake Voice Actors post to see who is the face behind these voices.

Leave the swamp and travel back toward the Old Camp. Take a right after crossing the bridge and follow the familiar path all the way to the top. This is basically going back to where we started. Take a right near the upper bridge above your head to locate the entrance to the Old Camp.

The guard stationed outside will not allow you to enter right away. You will have to bribe him a little bit and tell him that you are investigating by choosing this dialogue option: “It’s official business. I’m investigating something for Raven.” He should hand over the key and let you enter the mine now.

You can also just stab him to death and steal the keys. So you know… whatever is your style. Pick your pick. No judging.

How to Find the Gothic Remake Caine Location

Now it’s time to explore the mine and find the answer we are all looking for: Where is Caine? I recommend taking your time and loot what you can. Also, take a pickaxe with you. There is a lot of Ore in the mine. You can also check out its location on the map below:

Once inside, follow the train tracks until you reach a dead end. Right before there, take a left and enter the lake area.

Dive into the water and swim toward the glowing blue section at the bottom. You will need this later. So reach it and pick it up. Just be careful not to run out of breath.

Return to the surface and locate the tall ladder at the back of the cavern and climb to the top. Take a left on the top, do a running jump over the gap, and insert the mechanism you retrieved into the nearby device. This opens the fence below.

Now dive back into the lake and swim through underneath the newly opened gate. Emerge on the other side to find a waterfall. Descend down the ladder nearby and dive again at the base of the falls. Here you will find a submerged chest that you don’t want to miss. Just resurface to breathe.

Dive once more and swim against the current through. Continue forward until you reach the next section of dry land. There are some enemies here. So be prepared. Keep advancing in this area and dive where you have to. You can always find your way underwater by swimming against the current.

At the end of the path, you will reach the old mine. Save your progress and heal yourself if you need to before entering the mines. Keep advancing until you reach the big Undead Orc. Caine is lying dead on the floor upstairs.

The best way to kill the Undead Orc is to keep your distance and shoot him with arrows or bolts. If you want to use melee attacks against him, one-handed weapons are your best options. These Orcs are fast and you should be too.

Caine’s rewards and dropped items: Rice Schnapps ×6, Weathered Axe, Ore Nugget ×5, Rice ×2.

Travel back to the Old Camp and tell Raven what you discovered. Next, make your way to the Swamp Camp and deliver the same news to Cor Kalom. Once done, the quest officially concludes.

If you’ve done everything right, you should find the Gothic Remake Caine NPC and finish the Lost Apprentice quest. Have more questions? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
