The “True Stranger” Achievement
Completing this cryptic quest line unlocks a brand-new achievement called “True Stranger”. The achievement description simply tells you to complete the Chromanin quests. While the classic version of the game also had an achievement for this, the remake version feels a bit more involved. You will need to find all six books to get your reward.
All Chromanin Book Locations in Gothic 1 Remake
Finding every book is a massive scavenger hunt. The developers changed the text and moved the later volumes around. Check out the exact spots below to save yourself hours of wandering.
Chromanin 1: The Lighthouse Tower Basement
The first book kicks off the whole quest line. Make your way over to the Lighthouse tower. Head straight down into the basement to find it. Grab the book to start the journey. You will immediately notice that the actual text inside is completely different from the classic version.

Chromanin 2: The New Camp Lake Hut
The riddle points you to a lake near the New Camp. Head to the small lake outside the camp where the shirtless pugilist lives. Make sure you search the area before you enter the rice fields. Look for a hut on the far side of the water. The second book is right there on a table.

Chromanin 3: The Mountain Fortress Hidden Room
This one takes you straight to the Mountain Fortress. You need to access the secret room behind the furnace to find the third book. Unlock the hidden door by interacting with three different bookshelves in the area. Keep in mind that this area might be locked before Lester‘s quest for the Focus Stones.

Chromanin 4: The Old Camp Castle Dungeons
The fourth book takes you deep into the heart of the Old Camp. You need to head straight for the Castle Dungeons. It is dark and heavily guarded down there. Keep your weapon ready as you navigate the cells and secure the book. It is deep within the catacombs, like the picture below.

Chromanin 5: The Old Citadel Golem Room
Make your way to the Old Citadel for the fifth book. You need to reach the Golem room to secure it.

Go all the way to the top and interact with the bell there, like the picture below, and jump inside the hole.

Surprise! You have a Golem to kill here, and after that, you are done.
