Gothic Remake Lester: Where to Find Him & All Related Quests Guide

Lester is one of your four main buddies in the Gothic, alongside Diego, Gorn, and Milten. He’s a Novice (low rank member) of the Brotherhood of the Sleeper in the Swamp Camp.

He’ll help you survive when almost everyone else wants to knock your teeth in. But sometimes players get confused about quests related to him. Don’t worry, in this guide I’ll solve all your problems related to Lester. This bald guy is a good friend of mine.

All the Lester Quests: Locations and Guide

Gothic Remake Lester is involved in many quests (like the original version). Most are tied to the Swamp Camp, but the biggest one happens late in the game.

Note: The quest guides below are written with love and I wish you read them. But they may contain some spoilers. Read carefully.

A Tip about Lester: When you talk to Lester, select the dialogue option ‘Can you help me find my way around?’ then pick a location. Lester helps get you to locations around the Swamp Camp tied to side quests, such as The Cult’s Recipe or New Souls for The Brotherhood.

Quest 1: Admission to the Swamp Camp

This is a main quest. You need to join one of the three camps to advance the story. Lester is your key.

Head to the Swamp Camp entrance. Lester is there talking to a guru named Baal Namib. Talk to him. He’ll walk away with you and then teach you some sneaky tricks to fool the gurus into supporting you.

You need to get approval from four of five gurus. Lester tells you exactly how to trick Baal Namib:

  • Talk to Lester again after he gives you the advice.
  • Go back to Baal Namib and say what Lester told you.
  • Baal Namib will be fooled and give you his support to join the camp.

Quest 2: The Cult’s Recipe

This is a side quest you can get while trying to get into the Old Camp’s castle (I hate that Old Camp encounter with Bullit).

Somewhere along the way, you’ll be tasked with getting a special recipe from Cor Kalom’s lab in the Swamp Camp. Once you’re in the Swamp Camp, you can ask Lester to guide you straight to the lab. He’ll take you there personally so you don’t get lost.

Quest 3: Minecrawler Nest

This is a main, multi-part quest. It’s the final confrontation with the Minecrawlers and is directly connected to Lester.

Before sending you to Lester, Cor Angar requires you to defeat Gor Na Dun in a sparring match at the Swamp Camp training grounds. Only after proving yourself does Cor Angar send you to the Old Mine to find Lester.

Then you can continue the Minecrawler storyline and comes to a head when you meet Lester down in the Old Mine. After you find him, he’ll tell you about the plan to attack the Queen. He says you need more fighters, so he sends you to recruit three Templars.

You have to find three specific Templars. Most just need convincing in dialogue, but one of them, Gor Nabar, wants you to bring him Minecrawler Mandibles first.

Once the Templars are recruited and Ian’s machine is fixed (by you finding the cog in the previous quest), the assault begins on the Queen’s nest.

Can’t Find Lester in Old Mine?

Lester is located on the lowest level of the Old Mine near a collapsed tunnel. To find him Enter the Old Mine and keep descending past multiple mining platforms. Pass the campfire where three Swamp Camp troops are sitting.

Head left of the group, go past the Orc Slave and Guard. You’ll find Lester speaking with Asghan at the top of the area
He’s overseeing preparations related to the Minecrawler threat.

If you’ve descended to the bottom and still can’t find him, check that you’ve spoken to Cor Angar first and completed the sparring challenge against Gor Na Dun.

Cog in the Wheel

This is a sub quest of Minecrawlers Nest. After proving yourself to Cor Angar in the Swamp Camp (usually by beating someone in a sparring match), he’ll tell you to find Lester deep in the Old Mine.

He’s leading the operation down in the mine. Head into the Old Mine and go deep, past several levels of platforms and tunnels. He’ll be down there in the Minecrawler-infested areas.

Lester asks you to find a missing cog needed to fix Ian’s ore masher. Fight your way even deeper into the mine, through more Minecrawlers, and find the missing cog. Then you should return the cog to Ian. Finally, you have to meet Lester again at the mine entrance to complete this phase.

Quest 4: The Focus in the Mountain Fortress

This is a main quest that happens late in the game. In Chapter 3, you’ll need to retrieve another Focus stone for the Water Mages. You have to go to the Mountain Fort in the southeast mountains. As you cross a bridge, you’ll find Lester there.

He’ll join you as a follower for the rest of the quest. He wants to find an old document inside the fort. You’re looking for the Focus. Lester is looking for a Title Deed. Clear out the fort together. Inside, find a key in the library, then go up a ladder. Use the key to open a chest on the balcony. That chest has the Title Deed Lester wants.

After you find the Focus, you can’t reach it. But Lester will reward you with Telekinesis scrolls, which you can use to grab it from a high pedestal.

Your Sly Friend in the Swamp

Lester in Gothic Remake is worth knowing. He’s your key to the Sect Camp and a guide through the Swamp. But don’t expect him to solve every quest. Lester is a helper but sometimes you should be the helper, like when dealing with Syra. Remember, you’re a hero.

Find Lester at the Swamp Camp entrance early on, then again at the Mountain Fortress later. Ignore the haters who complain about his new look. He’s still your buddy and many quests are related to him somehow.
