Gothic Remake Ur-Shak Location: Complete the Shaman Shunned Quest

This is a crucial chapter in the main story. After your first meeting, Xardas wants to test you again. He sends you to find an exiled Orc Shaman who can tell you the second part of the Sleeper’s story and reveal how to eventually bring down the magical barrier.

The shaman’s name is Ur-Shak. I’ll explain how to find him easy and fast and complete the quest.

Shaman Shunned Quest Prerequisites

For this quest, you must first complete the “collecting the three golem hearts” objective during Xardas’s main quest in Chapter 4. Once you have all three hearts and reach Xardas in his tower, talk to him about Saturas, The Water Mages’ Plan, and how to deal with the Sleeper. This dialogue will cause Xardas to mention Ur-Shak and start A Shaman Shunned in your quest log. The quest is not available until you’ve completed this prerequisite.

Do This First

Before going out of Xardas’s tower, make sure you select “Teach me Orcish” from his dialogue options. This increases your Orcish skill and is essential for communicating with Ur-Shak. Without it, you won’t be able to complete the quest. This is a common mistake that can force you to travel all the way back to Xardas, so don’t forget this step

How to Find Ur-Shak

The way to find him is to start your journey from Xardas’ Tower. Follow these steps and you’ll find him without getting lost:

Start at Xardas’ Tower: Teleport there or make the journey on foot. Once you arrive, stand facing the tower’s main entrance.

Turn left and Go: Turn to your left and head in the direction where you fought the Stone Golem earlier. On that battlefield, look to your right for a small trail heading up the mountain.

Follow the Trail Up: Climb up this winding path. Soon, you’ll come across a small lake. Not far from it, you’ll see the ruins of Xardas’ old tower.

Reach the Old Citadel: After the climb, continue following the trail as it winds higher up the mountain. Your destination is the Old Citadel ruins, a ruined castle at the peak of the large mountain to the northeast.

When you reach Ur-Shak, you’ll find him being attacked by three orcs. You must help him defeat them before you can speak with him. Clear out the orcs first, then approach him to begin the conversation that completes the quest.

Pro Tip: Bring a blunt weapon before heading to the Old Citadel. You’ll encounter a Stone Golem in the area, and edged weapons do nothing to it

Rewards and Next Steps

After find him, your business with Ur-Shak is far from over. Here’s what you get and what comes next.

Speak with Ur-Shak to finish the “Shaman Shunned” quest. He’ll give you a Talisman and fill in the blank spots on your map, revealing the Orc territory.

Once the quest is done, talk to Ur-Shak again and ask about the orc language. He can teach you Level 2. Learning this will immediately unlock the “Foreign Language Master” achievement, so don’t miss it.

Ur-Shak will also point you toward your next major task called Banner of Banners. To walk safely among the orcs, you’ll need a legendary artifact called the Ulu-Mulu. He’ll tell you to find his old friend, Tarrok, in the Free Mine, who can craft it for you.

Pro-Tip: Before you leave the area, look for a distant tower you can reach by crossing a small bridge. Pick the lock on the chest inside to find a Spirit Essence. Drinking it will permanently increase your Mana by 2 points. Every little bit helps for magic users.

FAQs

Is “A Shaman Shunned” a main quest or a side quest?

It is a main quest. This is not optional content, you must complete A Shaman Shunned to progress the main story in Chapter 4.

What happens if I kill Ur-Shak?

Don’t. Ur-Shak is friendly and a key story character. Killing him will lock you out of the main quest progression.

Can I use a teleport rune to reach Ur-Shak faster?

No. There is no teleport rune that takes you directly to the Old Citadel or Ur-Shak’s location.

Does the Orc Talisman stack with other fire protection items?

Yes. You can wear one amulet and two rings simultaneously. The Orc Talisman provides +20 Fire Protection and can be combined with a Protection of Fire ring for even greater fire resistance.
