How to Reach the Gothic Remake Mountain Fortress Location
If you already know where Mountain Fortress itself is, you can skip this part. If not, here is how to reach it:
The Mountain Fortress is in the southeastern part of the map. Start from the Old Camp and cross the bridge heading east, then turn south. You will run into a stone golem blocking the path. Lester is standing right in front of it and needs your help getting past.
Deal with the golem and follow Lester’s quest to enter. The fortress becomes accessible during the Focus at the Mountain Fortress quest, which Saturas gives you as part of the main story.
Where to Find the Gothic Remake Mountain Fortress Chest
You will find the locked chest hidden inside the private room of the Baron. Once you clear the hidden alchemy lab, head up the stairs and climb the ladder. Jump straight down into the main hall.
Walk into the bedroom on the right. The locked chest is sitting right there in the cellar backroom. You can also find the third Chromanin book here, too. But you cannot lockpick this chest and need a key for it.
How to Get the Gothic Remake Mountain Fortress Chest Key
The cellar key to the Baron’s chest sits at the very top of the highest tower in the fortress. Save your game before heading up. Multiple Harpies guard the raven tower. But you can easily take them out with a high-dexterity bow. Go outside the room and head up the incredibly long stairs inside, across the hall. Near the top, there is a massive hole in the wall.
You must climb out through this hole. Go upwards and left for a bit to reach the other massive hole. Once inside, go right and up the stairs to reach the roof. You need the Climbing Skill unlocked to make it up there. The chest key is sitting right there at the peak inside another chest that you need to lockpick.
There are also other items besides the chest key inside this chest. Once you get the key, come back the way you came up and go find the chest again to open it. It has the Royal Guard Armor along with other rewards. You can scroll further down to check them.

How to Reach the Mountain Fortress Broken Bridge
As I mentioned, there is a chest in this area that most players struggle to reach. This is the chest that you see across the broken bridge on your quest with Lester. Buy a Bloodfly scroll from Baal Cadar at the Swamp Camp first. You also need the Climbing Skill for this run. Climb up to the roof of the highest tower facing the chest.
Turn into a Bloodfly here and jump! Tap the Spacebar exactly once to gain altitude. Do not hold the button down. Hold Shift to fly much faster and push straight forward across the gap. At least, that’s how it worked for me. You can try it your way.
Try an alternate route if the direct flight fails. Fly down from the top and land on the red roof to the left of the broken bridge. Fly right alongside the mountain wall from there. This trick lets you maintain altitude against the wall collision. Loop around and drop down on the other side.
Other Gothic Remake Mountain Fortress Chests
The Mountain Fortress has two more chests inside the hidden alchemy lab that are easy to miss. Both require lockpicking, but no key this time.
Hidden Lab Chest 1: Healing Supplies
This one is inside the secret lab behind the bookshelf puzzle. Activate the statues in this order: Swampshark, Wolf, Molerat. The fireplace opens a hidden passage that has the chest
Rewards: Elixir of Healing, Extract of Healing x2, Essence of Healing x4
Hidden Lab Chest 2: Magic Energy Supplies
Don’t go away yet! This one is right next to Chest 1 inside the same hidden room.
