Gothic Remake Velaya Location, Bath Scene, and Censorship

Velaya, often misidentified by new players as Valeya or Valaya, is one of the most talked-about female characters in Gothic Remake thanks to her expanded role and the controversy surrounding her redesign. Here’s everything you need to know about Velaya, including her location and the debate over the changes made to her character.

Who Is Velaya in Gothic Remake?

Velaya is a female NPC in Gothic who lives in the Old Camp’s castle. She’s under the control of Gomez, the leader of the Ore Barons. When you, as the Nameless Hero, speak to her, she refuses to talk and tells you that you aren’t allowed to speak with her.

In the original game, Velaya has a very small role and serves mainly as a background character that highlights the power Gomez and the Ore Barons hold over others in the Colony. Despite her limited screen time, she became one of the more memorable female characters in Gothic and later inspired the famous fan-made mod Velaya: Tale of a Warrior.

In Gothic Remake, Velaya’s character has been expanded with additional dialogue and story involvement compared to the original game.

Velaya Location: Where Can You Find Her?

If you’re looking for Velaya in Gothic Remake, the best place to start is Gomez’s quarters inside the Old Camp castle, then check the second-floor rooms during the evening hours. She moves between Gomez’s room on the first floor and the castle’s main hall.

Where Is Velaya During the Secrets Quest?

During the “Secrets” quest, sometimes she appears in the women’s bedroom on the second floor at night. You can also find her after 9:00 PM in a central room on the second floor. Her appearance can sometimes be inconsistent. Reload if she doesn’t show up where expected.

In the original Gothic, Velaya can be found inside Gomez’s room in the Ore Barons’ Residence, located in the Old Camp’s castle. She’s kept there by Gomez and rarely leaves the area.

Velaya’s Bathing Scene: Location and Timing

If you want to see Velaya’s bathing scene in the Old Camp castle, timing is everything. Head upstairs to Gomez’s room right when Arto is clapping downstairs. That’s your cue that Gomez is distracted watching the dancers, in the evening.

You can sneak in by waiting for one of the workers to open the guarded doors on the upper floor. Or, if you want, you can just knock Gomez out and grab his keys. Now, the scene itself has gotten me upset. Velaya is shown taking a bath in her underwear, and it feels like that cleans things up too much and loses the raw, gritty feel of the Colony.

In my opinion, the devs should have used clever soap suds instead to stay true to the original vision.

Gothic Remake Women: Redesigns and Censorship Controversy

The controversy around Velaya in the Gothic Remake centers on changes to her design and role compared to the original game. In the original, Velaya and the other women in the Old Camp wear more revealing outfits and serve as sex slaves and servants to Gomez and the Ore Barons.

The original game depicts a harsher life inside the Colony. Many players saw this as environmental storytelling that showed the brutal, hedonistic nature of the camp’s rulers. (Source: Reddit discussion)

In the Remake, however, Velaya and Syra, alongside the other women, appear with more clothing and, according to some fans, look less attractive.

Some critics argue that they have been uglified and now look more like generic prisoners than sex slaves. These players view the changes as censorship and believe the redesigns were made to fit modern sensibilities.

Critics also argue that these changes go against the faithful remake that was promised. Some fans believe the redesigns betray the original game’s dark tone and hurt the remake’s authenticity. Others have described the changes as an example of political correctness that influences the game’s direction, although not everyone in the community agrees with that assessment.

Jason’s journey of countless memorable video game stories began when he was only 8 years old. Most of the time, he would play Mortal Kombat 4 on his PC after school. When night fell, it was time for the original Resident Evil 3 to scare the living daylights out of him. But he wouldn’t trade those good old days for anything. He likes to break down gameplay mechanics into simpler parts so that the audience can find what they’re looking for in no time.
