Gothic Remake Bullit: How to Find, Beat & Loot Him

Bullit is actually a guard in the Old Camp and you face him early game. His job is roughing up new prisoners. He’s big, he’s mean, and his name is likely a mix of the words “bully” and “it” and I hate him. I remember Bullit even in the original version, and now he is exactly the same in this Gothic 1 Remake.

Do You Want revenge? Follow me and I’ll explain how to take him down and actually loot him. His stuff is worthy enough.

The Water Baptism

You don’t get a warm welcome in the Valley of Mines. You get punched right in the face.

This cruel greeting is a ritual the guards call the “Water Baptism”. At the colony’s entrance zone, Bullit and his buddies beat up every new prisoner that arrives. They’ve been doing this for a while, so you’d better believe they’re good at it.

Your First Fight (You Can’t Win)

Here’s how it goes down. As soon as you’re thrown into the colony, Bullit and some other guards walk up to you and start that damn baptism, in which they proceed to beat you senseless. You’re weak, unarmed, and have no chance. The beating only stops when Diego, an experienced shadow from the Old Camp, steps in to pull them off you.

How to Find Bullit

Finding Bullit isn’t nearly as difficult as finding some other characters like Caine. Here’s exactly where to look in the Old Camp:

During the day Bullit usually hangs around the tavern inside the castle of the Old Camp. He’s often drinking with other guards, making him easier to approach.

At nights, he leaves through the North Gate and goes to the river outside the Old Camp. This is actually the best time to deal with him if you want to avoid witnesses.

For the Bully for Bullit quest specifically, wait for him to leave the tavern with a drink in his hand. He’ll be fully sloshed and can barely walk. Follow him to a more isolated spot (like the fork at the North Gate) where you can beat him without attracting attention.

Inside the castle

After you progress further in the main story, you’ll find him guarding the passage to the prison beneath the Old Camp’s castle. Every time he sees you later in the game, he’ll attack you immediately, saying he “should have drowned you when he had the chance”. Just finish him when the right tim e comes.

His Gear and Inventory

If you manage to take him down, you can loot his body. He carries a weapon called the Sword of Fear (42 damahe and 32 STR). He also carries a Light Crossbow and that’s useful too. You may also find some Ore Nuggets on him.

Once you’ve leveled up enough to take him on, believe me, it will be a very satisfying fight.

Bully for Bullit Side Quest

Beating Bullit isn’t just about personal revenge. There’s also a full side quest tied to him called “Bully for Bullit”.

How to start the quest:

  1. Gain access to the Inner Ring of the Old Camp by completing the Casting Shadows (it’s a side quest).
  2. Enter the Inner Ring and head right from the castle entrance until you find Syra sitting on a bench in front of the kitchen.
  3. Talk to her. She’ll tell you that Bullit has been harassing her.
  4. Ask if you can help her to trigger the “Bully for Bullit” side quest.
  5. Find Bullit (see location section above).
  6. Beat him in a fight and tell him to leave Syra alone.
  7. Return to Syra to claim your reward (the reward is a recipe (which ties into the Double Double quest for Snaf) and 500 XP.

Note: There is a bug in the game that sometimes blocks the kitchen doorway with a wall. You should walk to the left edge of the opening to slip past it, or return at a different time of day.

Go Get Your Revenge

Bullit is a jerk. He humiliates you in the first five minutes and thinks he’s untouchable. But that’s what makes beating him so satisfying. Don’t rush it. Level up, learn to fight, grab some decent gear, and come back when you’re ready and put him down. Take his Sword of Fear, his crossbow, his armor, and his ore.

He deserves it. Trust me, the rematch is worth every swing. Now go teach that bully a lesson.

FAQs

Can I beat Bullit up before starting the “Bully for Bullit” quest?

Yes you can. If you beat up Bullit before talking to Syra, you won’t have to fight him again when you get the quest. You can simply approach him and warn him off, and the quest will progress normally.

What’s the best time and place to fight Bullit?

At night, near the river outside the North Gate. During the day, Bullit is in the tavern inside the castle where other guards will join the fight against you.

Do I need to complete “Casting Shadows” first?

Yes and no. You need access to the castle, which you get by progressing through the “Admission to the Old Camp” until you get permission from Diego and Thorus. This effectively means completing the “Casting Shadows” quest chain or bribing your way in.

Does Bullit’s location change as the story progresses?

Yes. Later in the game, Bullit can be found guarding the passage to the prison beneath the Old Camp’s castle. After the zombie plague breaks out in the Valley of Mines, Bullit stays in the castle with other Old Camp residents and remains hostile to the hero.

Is the Sword of Fear available anywhere else?

Yes, you can also obtain the Sword of Fear from Fisk (starting in Chapter 3) and Skip (also in Chapter 3) through trade. However, looting it from Bullit is the earliest and most cost-effective way to get it.
