Gothic Remake Cavalorn: His Location & Why You Need Him

Cavalorn in Gothic Remake is a cool trainer who helps a lot. He can teach you how to use a bow and sneak. You can find him west of the Old Camp, learn things and do his related quests. I’ll show you his exact locations on the map, I’ll also explain how he is important in the game. Follow along and read till the end.

Gothic Remake Cavalorn Location

Forget complicated directions. Here’s how you find Cavalorn’s hut:

From the Old Camp’s main gate (the wooden one), turn left and keep the camp wall on your left. You’ll see a path going down a hill. Take it. His hut is on the right side of this path.

There is also another way. From the Old Camp’s Southern Stone Gate, head west. You’re going in the right direction. Look for a small hut on the riverbank, left side of the map.

Very Important Tip: If you’re on the quest “The Price of Magic” for Torrez, you can just buy the 2 Wolf Claws you need from Cavalorn and skip fighting wolves yourself. This is a huge time-saver early on.

Who is Cavalorn?

In the Gothic Remake, Cavalorn is a hunter and a Shadow from the Old Camp. But you don’t care about his title. Here’s why you care:

If you want to shoot things from a distance, you need him. He’s your bow teacher. He can also teach you to sneak. Additionally, he sells bows, arrows, and most importantly, animal parts like Wolf Claws.

Why You Need to Talk to Him

There are three main reasons to go see Cavalorn, and they’re all good.

Training (The Main Reason)

This is why you’re here. Cavalorn is the guy for Bow Mastery in the Remake. Sneaking is another thing you can learn from him and costs 10 Learning Points (LP). This skill lets you move quietly, which is basically required if you want to pick pockets or steal stuff without being caught.

You should know that Cavalorn actually teaches two levels of Bow combat:

TierCostEffect
Bow (Trained)10 LP + 50 OreQuicker drawing/aiming, more accurate, can land critical strikes
Bow (Master)20 LP + 150 OreEven quicker, more accurate, increased critical damage

Cavalorn’s Locked Chest & Hidden Cave

Inside Cavalorn’s hut, there is a locked chest. It holds Cavalorn’s Key, which opens a locked cave door hidden nearby.

To get the key, you have two options:

  • Steal it: Wait until Cavalorn is asleep or away from his hut, then pick the chest’s lock or grab the key.
  • Pick the lock: If you have Lockpicking skill, you can open the chest directly.

The cave entrance is located west of Cavalorn’s hut, behind a fallen tree. Inside, you’ll find:

  • A Shortbow (right side of the cave).
  • Ring of Wooden Skin (+5 Point Damage, -5 Dexterity).
  • Lockpicks, Beer, Torch.
  • Oak Wood, Leather Strips, Willow Wood, Feathers.
  • A Light Scroll.

Beasts of Khorinis

This is a new side-questline added in the Remake. It’s one of the major side stories and it’s related to Cavalorn.

No NPC gives you this quest. You must find the first bestiary volume on your own and bring it to Cavalorn.

Volume 1: Scavengers

Book Location: Jan’s cabin placed south of the New Camp, near the lake. Either sneak in through the broken wall on the right side, or buy it from Fisk at the Old Camp for 9 Ore Nuggets.

Cavalorn’s Quiz (make sure to answer all three correctly):

“Scavengers have protective plates – where do they sit?”Along the upper part of the spine.

“The hollow chambers in their skull – what makes them special?”They amplify their calls.

“Why do they flock together?”To defend their feeding grounds.

Reward: 50 XP + ability to harvest Scavenger Skull Plates.

Volume 2: Minecrawlers

Book Location: You can find it in 2 locations:

  • New Camp: Wolf’s hut (upper huts on the left side of the main entrance). Sneak in from the right side of the door or use a Sleep Scroll on the two bandits outside.
  • Old Mine: Side tunnel near Aleph – drop down the hole on the right and loot the chest.

Give the book to Cavalorn. He rewards 500 XP and asks you to bring a Minecrawler Queen Pheromone Gland. So where to get the gland? During the Minecrawler’s Nest quest in Chapter 2.

Warning: The gland is missable, once the Old Mine collapses in Chapter 2, you can no longer access it. Also, you may need it later for crafting permanent potions, so consider whether to hand it over.

Reward: Unlocks the Extract Organ skill – allows you to harvest Bloodfly poison sacs and Fire Lizard venom glands.

Volume 3: Natural Armor

Book Location: Deep in Orc territory. Exit the Old Camp via the south gate, head right past the guard post (sneak, run, or fight your way through), hug the left wall, look for a broken cart, and find the book in the second chest inside a small cave.

Bring Cavalorn 3x Lizard Scutes. Find lizards near Cohsel’s cabin (near Cavalorn’s hut), at the logging station, or near the beach.

Reward: 850 XP + ability to harvest Razor Plates.

Volume 4: Shrat (Swampsharks)

Book Location: Shrat’s isolated hut near the western edge of the Swamp Camp map. Go south to the Templar guard, walk through the hollow tree trunk, follow the wooden trail to Viran’s lookout, hug the right wall, and climb to avoid the water.

Bring Cavalorn an intact Swampshark hide and plate to do the task.

How to kill Swampsharks? Kite a Swampshark to the hollow log area, it can’t pass through. Shoot one near the camp entrance and lure it to the Templar guards. Two scrolls kill a Swampshark (5 mana each).

Reward: 250 Ore Nuggets + 1000 XP.

Volume 5: Shadowbeasts

Book Location: Xardas’s tower (late-game area). You must bring the hearts of fire, ice, and stone golems to enter. The book is on the round table behind Xardas.

The task here is to hunt a legendary Shadowbeast and bring back its pelt. Extra Shadowbeast skin can also be found in a treasure room north of Cavalorn’s hut.

Reward: Completes the final Bestiary quest.

Stuff Cavalorn Sells

He’s not just a teacher. He’s also a merchant.

He sells bows like the Rider’s Bow and the Field Bow. He also sells arrows and crossbow bolts.

A pro tip: Never sell your animal trophies (like skins or teeth) to a random merchant. Always sell them to a hunter like Cavalorn. They give you the best price for them.

Let Cavalorn Teach You

Cavalorn is your early-game lifeline. He teaches you bows and Sneaking, buys your animal trophies at the best price, and starts the “Beasts of Khorinis” side questline.

Find his hut west of the Old Camp, grab the free chest loot (1R, 2L, 3R), and you’re set. Don’t sleep on him just because you’re a melee build, he’s still useful for selling stuff and that Sneaking skill.

FAQs

I went to his hut, but Cavalorn isn’t there. What do I do?

He is usually outside his hut. If he’s not there, try waiting. He might be inside, asleep, or out on a walk.

Does helping or angering Cavalorn affect the main story?

No, your interactions with Cavalorn do not affect the main story. He is a side character focused on hunting and training. The only significant choice with him is related to a side quest reward (see below).

What requirements needed to learn from Cavalorn?

There are no specific level or quest requirements to learn from him. He will teach anyone who can pay the Learning Points and Ore cost.
