Gold Bar Locations

RDR2 Treasure Maps Guide

Let’s get things straight: making money in Red Dead Redemption 2 is slow, especially when the game kicks in at the start of Chapter 2. Maybe you kill a couple of them O’Driscolls and loot a dollar or two, but that doesn’t change the fact that you’re still the poorest outlaw in the West.

However, I’m going to show you how to get every treasure in the game to get yourself a lot of gold bars and never be broke again. With that being said, let’s get you rich.

Jack Hall Gang Treasure

Number of Maps: 3
Reward: 2 Gold Bars ($1,000)

Approach Maximo northwest of Flatneck Station to trigger the cutscene. He is standing on a cliff ledge near the Dakota River. Buy his map for $10 (talk him down to $5) or hogtie and steal it. You need that map to start the treasure hunt. Later it’s available at any Fence if you miss him.

High Stakes Treasure

Number of Maps: 3
Reward: 3 Gold Bars ($1,500)

You can start this treasure hunt through an old treasure hunter who appears near cliff edges northeast of Riggs Station, but he can also appear near Valentine or Cumberland. Even if you miss him, he will respawn after a couple of in-game days.

The Poisonous Trail Treasure

Number of Maps: 3
Reward: 4 Gold Bars ($2,000)

The infamous RDR2 cave treasure hunt it is. Worry not, though. If you know what to do and where to go, worrying would be the last thing in the world you want to do. Start the Poisonous Trail Treasure Hunt from the West Grizzlies, above the M of Ambarino on the map.

The Landmarks of Riches Treasure

Number of Maps: 4
Reward: 6 Gold Bars ($3,000)

The Landmarks of Riches treasure is arguably the most treacherous of them all, but the reward as you can see is the greatest too. Start this treasure hunt from northwest of Lake Owanjila and Strawberry.

The Mended Map Treasure

Number of Maps: 1 (two halves)
Reward: Otis Miller’s Revolver + Rare Shotgun + 6 Erotic Photographs

The Torn Treasure is a little different from your typical treasure hunt in the world of RDR2. It relies on two separate torn maps. You must complete the it to find the location of the treasure.

The Elemental Trail Treasure

Number of Maps: 1 (two halves)
Reward: 1 Gold Bar ($500) + Crow’s Beak Trinket

Do this treasure hunt only after you’ve beaten Chapter 6. That’s because it takes place in parts of the map where it’s forbidden to go and I can’t say more without spoiling anything.

Pro Tips Before You Begin Your Journey

  • Lantern: This is necessary for your navigation and survival. That’s because some parts of The Poisonous Trail and The Strange Statues take place in pitch-black caves, which would make things very difficult for you without the lantern. So, equip it: Weapon Wheel > Knife slot.
  • Winter Clothing: Remember to store a cold weather outfit on your horse. The reason is that High Stakes and Poisonous Trail take you through the Grizzlies, so if you don’t wear a suitable outfit, your health core drains super duper fast.
  • Horse Stimulants: There’s a lot of riding involved. Use stimulants so you can sprint long distances without waiting for your horse’s stamina to replenish.
  • Inventory Management: Gold bars stack, of course. However, a lot of other treasures you find along the way do not. Sell your current cheap valuables before starting your journey so you have room for the new loot.

Important Note: There’s also Le Tresor Des Morts treasure in the game, but it’s for those who pre-ordered the digital edition or bought the special or ultimate edition of Red Dead Redemption II. The Le Tresor Des Morts reward is a whopping 6 gold bars which are worth $3,000.

Congrats. You are broke no more. Spend your money wisely, but don’t worry too much. By the end of Chapter 6, you’re gonna have a couple thousand dollars. You should be good. Make sure to check out our complete RDR2 guide.

Jason Jenkins

Jason’s journey of countless memorable video game stories began when he was only 8 years old. Most of the time, he would play Mortal Kombat 4 on his PC after school. When night fell, it was time for the original Resident Evil 3 to scare the living daylights out of him. But he wouldn’t trade those good old days for anything. Jason is a minimalist at heart and that translates into his guide writing as well. He likes to break down gameplay mechanics into simpler parts so that the audience can find what they’re looking for in no time.
