The Bronze Protection Idol is a new item in Valheim, added in version 1.0. You will need this rare loot for crafting Black Forest Armor and Shields. Moreover, you can find it in Black Forest chests, such as ruins, Burial Chambers, and Troll Caves.
I found mine in one of the crypts in the same location. I suggest searching all the crypts for this loot.

Where to Find Valheim Bronze Protection Idol
As I mentioned earlier, you can find the Bronze Protection Idol in Black Forest chests, including:
- Ruins
- Burial Chambers
- Troll Caves
Unfortunately, there is no way to get this item from enemies or craft it. Therefore, your best option is to search the Black Forest.
How to Identify Bronze Protection Idol
The Bronze Protection Idol, like its twin (I mean the Battle version), is beaming with blue light that is a blessing or curse from the gods. It has a human-like shape and somehow reminds me of Egyptian statues.
Bronze Protection Idol Recipes: What Is It Used For?
To my knowledge, the Bronze Protection Idol can be used for crafting many items. I have listed some of them below, but if you know of any more items, please let me know in the comments:
- Bone Tower Shield: Wood (10), Bone Fragments (10), Skeleton Trophy (1) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
- Bronze Plate Leggings: Bronze (5), Deer hide (2) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
- Patterns of the Bear: Bear Hide (5), Bear Paw (2), Blueberries (4) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
- Troll Leather Trousers: Troll Hide (5) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
- Bronze Buckler: Bronze (10), Wood (4) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
- Bronze Plate Tunic: Bronze (5), Deer Hide (2) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
- Troll Hide Cape: Troll Hide (10), Bone Fragment (10) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
- Bronze Helmet: Bronze (5), Deer Hide (2) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
- Troll Leather Hook: Troll Hide (5), Bone Fragment (3) and Bronze Protection Idol (1)
As you can see, despite its name, the Bronze Protection item is not limited to bronze equipment. It belongs to the Black Forest progression tier.
You can also use Bjorn Bear to craft different items like Paws of the Bear and Patterns.
How to Use the Valheim Bronze Protection Idol in Forge of Potential
Later in the game, you can also use this item in the Forge of Potential. You can find this special forge in the Mountains.
The Forge allows you to upgrade compatible equipment beyond its normal quality threshold. However, this comes with a risk. A failed attempt can destroy the equipment.
Difference Between Bronze Battle and Protection Idol
The name itself implies the difference: Battle Idol is used for weapons, while the Protection Idol is used for armor and shields as defensive equipment.
The purpose is clear: if you need the Idol for a defensive item, get the Bronze Protection Idol!
