Hero Siege Hunger Issue Quest: How to Find the Ingredients and Cook the Maggot Stew

Hero Siege Hunger Issue is one of the early quests in the game, and many players are stuck on it because you have to collect ingredients across three different zones, and the game never quite tells you where the last one is. If you are struggling with finding the ingredients here is a full guide that helps you finish the quest without any trouble.

How to Start the Hunger Issue Quest

Hunger Issue comes from Ahriman, The Crow Keeper, in the Outskirts of Inoya. He’s the same NPC who gives you Pest Control first, where you kill Fragrat in the Rat Den dungeon. When you turn that in, Ahriman hands you Hunger Issue right away. From here, the quest runs across three zones.

Step 1: Collect Maggot Carcasses in Fields of Battle

Head into Fields of Battle, the zone right after Outskirts of Inoya. Kill the maggots crawling around the area and they’ll drop Maggot Carcasses. You need 30 of them. This part is simple: just clear the zone like normal and you’ll have enough before you’re done.

Step 2: Harvest Crimson Pumpkins in the Pumpkin Patch

Cross the Witching River into the Pumpkin Patch and look for Crimson Pumpkins on the ground. You need 5. Clear nearby enemies first, since picking one up takes a second or two, and you don’t want to get hit mid-animation.

This is very important: not every pumpkin you interact with actually counts. Some of them turn into a Malformed Pumpkin enemy instead of giving you the item. It’s random, so don’t panic if your count doesn’t move after clearing one. The pumpkins tend to spawn in packs of four, so you’ll usually find enough across two clusters.

One more tip: if pumpkins are clustered close together, you don’t need to click each one on its own. Hovering near the group and pressing your interact key (F by default) grabs every matching item in a small radius at once. Players call this “Wi-Fi looting,” and it saves you a lot of time.

Step 3: Cook the Stew in Woodhill Plains

This is where almost everyone gets stuck. Once you have your ingredients, keep moving forward into Woodhill Plains. Don’t turn back to the Pumpkin Patch or Fields of Battle looking for a cauldron, because it isn’t there.

At the entrance to the Black Tower dungeon in Woodhill Plains, you’ll find a cauldron with Ahriman waiting right beside it. Interact with the cauldron to cook the maggot stew, then talk to Ahriman to turn in the quest.

Where to Find The Cauldron in Hunger Issue Quest

Steam’s discussion boards and Reddit threads are full of players stuck at exactly this point, and it’s easy to see why. The confusion always comes down to the same thing: the cauldron only appears once you actually reach Woodhill Plains, not the zone where you picked up your last ingredient. A few players have gone as far as restarting their whole game to fix it. You don’t need to. Just keep walking forward, and the cauldron shows up on your map as soon as you enter the zone.

The Hero Siege Hunter Quest Reward

Turning in Hunger Issue gets you some experience and a couple of runes, handy early on for crafting or selling. It’s a small reward for an annoying quest, but skipping it just means backtracking later if you’re a completionist.

Once you’re past this and start gearing up properly, a loot filter makes leveling much smoother. Our Hero Siege Filter Guide walks you through building one from scratch.
