Cyberpunk 2077 Spontaneous Obliteration Perk Explained

Spontaneous Obliteration is a body perk in Cyberpunk 2077 built specifically for players using Shotguns, Light Machine guns, and heavy machine guns.
Once fully upgraded, it unlocks Obliterate, which gives you a chance to instantly kill and dismember enemies that are already at low health. The perk becomes available in the Body 15 tier and has three ranks. It is especially useful for close-range shotgun builds, although LMG and HMG users can take advantage of it as well.

Cyberpunk 2077 Spontaneous Obliteration Perk: What Is It?
The Spontaneous Obliteration has three levels, with each one adding another benefit to shotguns, LMGs, and HMGs.
Rank 1 gives you 12.5% Crit Chance while your Stamina is low. This is worth pointing out because older information about the perk may still say that it reduces recoil by 15%.

Rank 2 gives you +10% damage against nearby enemies. This naturally favors Shotguns, since you’re usually fighting at close range anyway, but the bonus also works with LMGs and HMGs.
The real reason to fully upgrade the perk, though, is Rank 3. This unlocks Obliterate.
How Does Obliterate Work?
Obliterate gives your shots a chance to instantly kill and dismember enemies at low Health.
It isn’t a flat 20% instant-kill chance on every enemy you shoot. Instead, the chance increases as the target’s Health gets lower, reaching a maximum 20% Obliterate chance.
That makes the perk more of a finisher than a way to immediately delete healthy enemies. You still need to deal enough damage to push an enemy into low Health, but once they’re there, your next shot may end the fight outright.

In practice, this fits Shotguns particularly well. You’re already dealing heavy burst damage at close range, so enemies regularly fall into the low-Health range where Obliterate can trigger.
Which Weapons Work With Spontaneous Obliteration Perk?
Spontaneous Obliteration only applies to:
- Shotguns
- Light Machine Guns
- Heavy Machine Guns
It does not benefit Pistols, SMGs, Assault Rifles, Sniper Rifles, or other weapon categories.
Is Spontaneous Obliteration Worth It?
If you’re running a Shotgun, LMG, or HMG build, it is a useful perk because all three ranks support that playstyle, especially at close range. The main reason to fully upgrade it is Obliterate. Just remember that the instant-kill effect only comes with Rank 3, while the first two ranks provide Crit Chance and close-range damage bonuses.
