How to Get a Free Ashen Cipher
You Already Have a Free Ashen Cipher! Bellring Games began a second wave of launch rewards on August 1 after the game passed 500,000 Gyldhunters and hit number one on Twitch. Every player gets an Ashen Cipher x1, an Abyssal Cipher x1, a Pip’s Rare Pouch Voucher (3 days), and 500 Soul Coins. Check your in-game mail to receive them.
Deadline: You have to log in before September 1, 2026 at 00:00 UTC or the reward mail expires.
Two things trip people up here. First, do not go hunting through the first reward wave from July 30 looking for a cipher. That one was a Thumbs Up gesture and 500 Soul Coins, nothing more.
Second, you cannot decipher anything until level 5. If no NPC would take it, that’s not a bug. The Decipher option only appears on camp NPCs once you reach level 5, where you unlock some great skills.
Where the Ashen Cipher Drops
Ciphers are Legendary-quality scroll items, and they can turn up almost anywhere in a raid. Locked chests are a strong bet. So are enemies carrying purple brands and the containers they are guarding. The general rule is that any Unidentified Item has a chance of being one. So identify everything before you write it off.
Brandrgarde has the highest reported cipher chance of the two maps. On Hallowgrove, players point to the areas around the Einherjar Ship Grave and the Supreme Hall, plus the harpies and abominations near the Divine Anchor.
But let me save you some time: cipher drops are active at every Gyldening Intensity. You do not need Chaos or Cataclysm. Cheap gear, the lowest intensity you can queue, a dense route, and an early extraction is how you do it. Pushing high tiers just makes you lose more when a rival kills you.

Whatever you do, don’t miss these event deadlines: Grand prize eligibility closes August 10 at 23:59:59 UTC. General Golden Cipher drops end August 12 at 17:00 UTC. The grand prize draw streams August 13. And your free mail expires September 1 at 00:00 UTC.
Who to Give the Ashen Cipher to
Give the Ashen Cipher to Sigrid. Any of the seven camp NPCs will decipher it. Soekja, Dew, Pip, Dramm, Cazarro, Sigrid, and Merimo all have the option. But only one of them pays out an extra reward for each Cipher. For the Ashen Cipher, that NPC is Sigrid.
You will find her in the Victory Wine area of camp, attached to the tavern. The quest calls her Sigrid the Red-Haired Omen, which makes her easy to pick out. Talk to her and choose Decipher. Sigrid reacts to it as something genuinely valuable as opposed to, say, Dew or a trader who simply pays your gold.
Sigrid gives you a Ripple Gem as a bonus reward, which can be used for equipment forging.
