Road to Vostok Punisher Guide: How to Get the Flame Beanie

You find the Punisher along with two of his henchmen in a police van driving on the highway in the village. It’s not that simple, though. Let’s see how often he appears and what loot he gives us once we’ve taken him down.

How to Find the Punisher in Road to Vostok

You’re not going to find the Punisher right off the bat in your playthrough. First, you have to survive until Day 5. Even then, you have, I’d say, 10% to 15% chance for him to spawn every time you load into a map. Needless to say, this RNG is incredibly annoying. Which means he could appear a couple of times in a row, or you might reach Day 18 and never see him.

There’s no specific weather condition or time of day that has any effect on when the Punisher appears. You see him pass the highway in the village, in a police van. When you hear the sirens and loud techno music, that means the Punisher is back in town.

How to Defeat the Punisher Boss

So you have two options here: the first of which is, if you have a bad loadout, don’t engage. The thing is, if they don’t see you, they can’t magically know where you are. The other option is, if you do have a good loadout like an automatic weapon, you engage. Just stay in the middle of the road and fire at the police van to force them to stop.

That’s when the two regular gopniks and the Punisher rush out of the van and the police van drives away. Know that the trio are extremely aggressive and try to flank you. So, retreat to a position where you can’t get flanked which makes it easy peasy lemon squeezy. Be careful, though. The Punisher can take a lot of hits, roughly two or three times the health of a standard enemy. So, go for headshots only to quickly end the threat.

Get the Flame Beanie

When you finally do drop all of them, it’s time to loot. You can get the Punisher’s signature flame beanie. Give the flame beanie to the gunsmith trader in order to unlock the bunker shelter. (If you’re looking for more shelters, don’t forget to check out our Road to Vostok Shelters Guide.)

There are also cigarettes and matches (for the quest), plus a KP-31 (Suomi) with a drum magazine (for another quest). However, drops might not be guaranteed every single time, so this may vary per run. Last but not least, keep a weapon repair kit on hand, as the dropped gun might be in terrible condition, sometimes around 11%.

FAQ

What happens if I kill the Punisher but die before I get the chance to loot the flame beanie?

The Punisher boss is a recurring dynamic event which means he’ll spawn again on future runs. So, there’s no need to worry if you manage to kill him but die before you get the chance to grab the flame beanie.

What’s the easiest way to kill the Punisher and his henchmen?

Whenever the van appears, try to get their attention by shooting at the van. Once the van stops and the door slides open, try to throw a well-timed grenade so that the blast can take out the Punisher as well as his two other crew members.
