Probably Stolen Arthur Lafleur: Should You Report Him or Spare Him?

Arthur Lafleur is the first wanted criminal you meet in Probably Stolen, on Day 3 of a standard run. You get two real options. Report him for 100 Credits and +5 Security, or spare him for +15 Revolution reputation. There is a catch, though. The spare bonus only works if you press the alarm once and hear his plea first. Just letting him walk out gets you no bonus at all. Here is how each choice works and which one I’d pick.

Who Is Arthur Lafleur in Probably Stolen

Arthur is a known activist from the failed Lower Levels revolution. He’s still tied to the Revolution faction, but the game shows him at your counter as a plain “Lower Level Citizen.” Nothing in that label says wanted, and that’s the whole trick.

He walks in like any other buyer, looking for Food and Material. His budget is 125 to 150 Credits before modifiers. His bounty is only 100 Credits, the lowest of the nine wanted criminals (Juan and John Smith are both at 125). He’s the cheapest snitch payout in the game.

When Does Arthur Lafleur Show Up

On a normal run with the intro on, Arthur is scripted for Day 3. No luck needed.

Pick Skip Intro, and he stops being a tutorial guest. He joins a random pool of seven wanted visitors instead, starting on Day 5. The chance of any wanted visitor begins at 4% and rises 2 points per attempt until it’s forced at attempt 16. Which of the seven you get is pure lottery.

Started with the Known Snitch perk? The poster’s criminals never enter your shop, so that’s the first thing to check if Arthur is missing.

Note: Don’t plan on a second chance. A random wanted visitor gets removed from the pool the moment he arrives, arrested or not.

How to Spot Arthur at the Counter

Officer Lun hands you the Wanted poster at the end of Day 1. He’s the one in the red beret and sunglasses. The poster lands in your inventory, so keep it handy.

On Day 3, a “Lower Level Citizen” walks up. Ignore the title, because it won’t tell you he’s wanted. The only check is his face. Open the poster, compare it to the person at the window, and resize it so it sits next to the customer. That makes the match quick.

Don’t guess. A wrong report costs 8 base Security, plus a 50-Credit fine if you hold at least 100. That fine is half of Arthur’s entire bounty.

How to Report Arthur Lafleur

Hold the teal Call Security button on your counter for about half a second. A quick tap gets ignored on default settings.

Here’s where people get tripped up. Your first hold doesn’t arrest him. Arthur cuts in with a plea instead. He claims he’s out of the Revolution and promises to speak well of you to the younger members.

Press the alarm a second time, and the report goes through. Three officers walk in and escort him out, and you get paid after they leave.

Perk Modifiers

That 100 is a base number. Model Citizen boosts bounties by 50%, and Convict cuts them by 25%.

Model Citizen150 Credits+8
Convict75 Credits+4

Note: Difficulty settings also scale the Revolution loss, so your displayed number may differ from -6.

How to Spare Arthur for +15 Revolution

Press Call Security once and let Arthur finish his plea. Then dismiss him without pressing the alarm again. He says a short thank you, and you get a base +15 Revolution standing.

Dismiss him with the customer-dismissal control. Holding B or the counter bell does the job. Don’t hit the alarm by mistake. A second press is a formal report.

Skipping the alarm entirely is the trap. If Arthur leaves without ever pleading, you get no +15. The next Nightly Report may even name him as a missed wanted visitor.

The +15 is a base number too. Difficulty changes it, and the Blabbermouth modifier halves Revolution gains.

Should You Report or Spare Arthur

Spare him, unless you’re building a Security-first shop.

The two choices are 21 Revolution points apart: +15 for sparing, -6 for reporting. That gap matters because Revolution perks start at +20 (marketplace requests), then +40 (a Quartermaster selling discounted Material on Sundays), +60, and +80. Sparing Arthur gets you most of the way to the first one on Day 3. It won’t hit +20 on its own, but it’s a solid head start.

If you’re siding with the Revolution, Odin Haraldsson is another wanted criminal worth thinking twice about reporting. Keeping him around gives you access to a recurring buyer for the faction.

The 100 Credits are the weakest part of reporting. It’s the lowest bounty on the list, and it’s smaller than Arthur’s own shopping budget. Compare that with Lou’s 1,500-Credit bounty. Reporting her pays much more, but it also starts a dangerous revenge storyline that can end your run.

Reporting does have two upsides: +5 Security and progress toward the Snitches Get Riches achievement. That’s my read, though. If Security is your plan, take the arrest.
