Moon Sweepers Upgrade Guide: Best Upgrades to Get First

If you’re just starting to get the hang of your broom in Moon Sweepers, just wait until you see the almighty JOONAS. Moon Sweepers Upgrades are a major part of the game, and choosing which one to spend money on is an even bigger concern. After you learn how to collect Moon Dust, that sweet sweet dust, you probably want to know which upgrades to get to make all of this work more efficient. You can buy new tools from the Supply Wall, unlock perks through the Upgrade Matrix, and improve vehicles at the Garage.
The most essential upgrades I recommend are Household Broom ($25), then the Wide Broom ($75) if you’re sticking with manual cleaning. Next, work toward the Push Sweeper ($300) once you can build a Garage. After your dust sales pick up, Market Contracts is the one to go for because of its 6% payout boost at Level 1. Here’s which other upgrades are worth your money and which ones I’d skip.

Best Moon Sweepers Upgrades to Buy First

So if I were optimizing my work flow, I’d focus on getting a better cleaning tool before spending too much on perks for the starting Toothbrush. Once you’re collecting enough dust to make decent money, you can start investing in the Upgrade Matrix and vehicles. One vital upgrade I highly recommend is the Building Tool because it opens up the option to build Packagers, which help immensely in automating your dust collecting process by putting them inside capsules on conveyor belts.
| Upgrade | Why It’s Worth Buying |
|---|---|
| Household Broom ($25) | +78.5% wider sweep and +200% (3x) capacity over the $10 Hand Brush |
| Wide Broom ($75) | +50.1% wider sweep and +100% (2x) base capacity over the Household Broom |
| Wide Heads ($40, Lv. 1) | Adds 8% cleaning width to hand tools |
| Building Tool ($50) | Unlocks construction, including Packagers & Garages |
| Garage ($200) | Lets you purchase and upgrade cleaning vehicles |
| Push Sweeper ($300) | Your first affordable vehicle for larger cleaning jobs |
| Market Contracts ($120, Lv. 1) | Adds a +6% global launch multiplier at Lv. 1 |
| Ride-On Sweeper ($1,000) | +400% (5x) hopper capacity |
| Rapid Transfer ($30, Lv. 1) | Speeds up dust deposits and transfers |
| Mega Vacuum Rover ($6,000) | +500% (6x) tank capacity |
How to Upgrade Tools, Suits & Vehicles
There are a total of four places where you can access the game’s upgrade system:
Supply Wall

This is probably where you encountered your first upgrade options. You can find the Supply Wall at Lunar Stations, near the deposit area. It’s where you buy handheld cleaning tools, additional Tool Belt slots, and equipment such as Gravity Boots and the Forward Jetpack.
Suit Gear and Tool Belt Upgrades

The Supply Wall also provides Tool Belt upgrades, which themselves provide extra equipment slots. The second slot costs $15, while the third costs $30. The Tool Belt can hold up to six tools, which is convenient when you want to switch equipment without heading back to a station.
Gravity Boots ($250) let you toggle Earth-like gravity using the B key. They’re useful for controlling your movement across the lunar surface. The Forward Jetpack ($300) provides a forward boost when you double-tap Spacebar. Night Vision Goggles ($350) make nighttime exploration much easier. Press N to cycle between your helmet lamp, goggles, and no lighting.
If you’re still learning the game’s basic mechanics, our Moon Sweepers Guide covers the cleaning and selling process in more detail.
Upgrade Matrix

This is the station’s holographic upgrade terminal. It has a total of five categories: Containers, Cleaning, Suit, Logistics, and Economy. These improve tools you already got or provide bonuses to those tools rather than giving you entirely new equipment.
Building Tool

Perhaps the second most important upgrade station (after the Supply Wall). You need to buy the Building Tool from the Supply Wall ($50) so you can build structures like the Packager, Splitter, or Merger. We also need it to purchase our next upgrade station on the list, the Garage.
Garage

The Garage provides us with a menu for buying vehicles and installing improvements on those said vehicles. Just keep in mind that handheld upgrades from the Upgrade Matrix, such as Wide Heads and Dust Compactor, don’t increase a vehicle’s cleaning width or hopper capacity. For vehicles, you need upgrades specifically from the Garage.
Best Early-Game Tool and Container Upgrades
The Toothbrush simply sucks. Not just because it can hold so little dust, but because it covers such little ground too. If you intend to clean the entire moon, you NEED upgrades.
Buy the Household Broom as early as you can because it provides way more cleaning width without costing much. Then from there, I’d prioritize the Wide Broom if you’re planning to spend more time cleaning manually. The Extra Wide Broom is even better for clearing large patches, although it’s worth considering how close you are to buying your first vehicle. Here are all the possible upgrades:
| Cleaning Tool | Price | Sweep Width | Base Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toothbrush | Free | 12 cm | 0.5 kg |
| Nail Brush | $5 | 18 cm | 0.75 kg |
| Hand Brush | $10 | 24 cm | 1 kg |
| Household Broom | $25 | 43 cm | 3 kg |
| Wide Broom | $75 | 65 cm | 6 kg |
| Extra Wide Broom | $150 | 98.8 cm | 12 kg |
Best Upgrade Matrix Upgrades
The Upgrade Matrix has five categories: Containers, Cleaning, Suit, Logistics, and Economy. First level Market Contracts costs $120 and increases launch payouts by 6%, while later levels cost $400 and $1,100. This is the first upgrade you should go for. Then unlock Lunar Exchange ($2,500) after Market Contracts Level 3 to add another 10% payout bonus. This is the best strategy I came up with.
For manual cleaning, Wide Heads ($40) increases cleaning width by 8% at Level 1. Dust Compactor ($150) adds 15% handheld container capacity, while Auto Packer automatically creates capsules when your tool fills up. The downside is that you’ll still need to transport those capsules to stations to conveyor belts.
Servo Stride improves movement speed, and Rapid Transfer speeds up dust deposits. Region Bounty increases rewards for finishing cleaned sections. These are mostly optional.
Best Vehicle Upgrades in Moon Sweepers
Once you have the Building Tool, build the Garage so you can get vehicles and their upgrades. Then we have these options on the table:
| Vehicle | Price | Capacity |
|---|---|---|
| Push Sweeper | $300 | 100 kg |
| Ride-On Sweeper | $1,000 | 500 kg |
| Crew Transport Van | $2,000 | Crew transport only |
| Lunar Sweeper | $2,500 | 1,200 kg |
| Mega Vacuum Rover | $6,000 | 3,000 kg |
Push Sweeper will be your first upgrade, then it’ll be Ride-on Sweeper, and if you’re feeling fancy, you can spend a large sum of money on Mega Vacuum Rover at the later stages of the game.
For vehicle upgrades, Suction Control improves cleaning coverage by trading some driving speed for wider suction. Big Hopper increases storage capacity, while Quick Release makes unloading faster. Tuned Motors and Turbo Kit improve speed, making them extra useful for long periods of cleaning. Prioritize the upgrade that solves your biggest problem. If unloading already takes too long, increasing hopper capacity won’t help much.
Best Late-Game Upgrades and Automation

Late game is all about automation. So we’ll be focusing on upgrades related to that. For example, the Robot Vacuum Mk1 ($250) automatically cleans a limited area around its dock, while the Mk2 ($500) covers a larger area and holds more dust.
For even more efficient cleaning, pick J.O.O.N.A.S ($20,000), if you can afford it. It works on its own across the Moon and launches dust capsules toward the nearest Capsule Catcher ($1,500). In the new patch it has double the cleaning speed it used to have and it will continue working even when you’re far away.
The Moon Sweepers Packager ($100) is another useful construction purchase. Unlike Auto Packer, it’s a building that turns loose dust into capsules for conveyor transport. Production machines such as the Pressure Chamber and Stone Press can further increase the value of collected materials.
What is the best upgrade in Moon Sweepers?
Market Contracts is a strong long-term purchase because it improves earnings from dust sales. For beginners, however, I recommend a better broom and increased container capacity. They’re more immediately useful to you.
Which upgrades should I skip?
Our upgrades should help optimize our flow, so avoid these mistakes: Buying intermediate brush – Expensive container upgrades just before switching to vehicles – Auto Packer – More vehicle capacity when unloading is already slow – Large robot setups (e.g. JOONAS) without preparing the logistics for them
How do I get Night Vision Goggles?
Yeah even the moon has night time. Night Vision Goggles were added in the recent patch as a $350 suit upgrade. After obtaining them, press N to cycle between the helmet lamp, goggles and no lighting mode.
Are upgrades shared in Moon Sweepers multiplayer?
Yeah, actually. Since patch 1.0.3, the host’s Upgrade Matrix is shared across the entire crew, and any crewmate’s purchase upgrades everyone.
