Where to Find Nickel Ore in Lightyear Frontier

In Lightyear Frontier, Nickel is best found on sandy spots by water in the eastern Outset Grasslands (northeast beach, riverbanks, Hexagon Valley beach, and southeast edges).
Break deposits with the Spike Saw, haul chunks to a Mineral Crusher and use Mineral Extractors plus the new Resource Scanner for steady supply. It’s mainly needed for early electronics like Bronze Electronics.

Best Places to Find Nickel Ore in Lightyear Frontier

Here’s the good news: the core pattern hasn’t changed much in the final version.
Nickel loves sand and water. Look for sandy patches next to rivers, lakes or the coast on the eastern side of the Outset Grasslands (your starting region).
The most consistent spots I keep returning to are:
- The beach in the far northeast of the Outset Grasslands
- Sandy stretches along the rivers that run through the grasslands (especially near the closed-off area)
- The small sandy beach that sits between the grasslands and Hexagon Valley
- The southeast edges of the starting zone
These locations still produce Nickel Deposits after the 1.0 resource placement tweaks. They’re not 100% guaranteed on every single playthrough because the developers tweaked resource placement across the world, but they’re by far the most reliable places to start looking.
Mark every deposit the moment you find it. Future-you will send present-you a thank-you fruit basket.
How to Mine Nickel

Once you spot a deposit, don’t just smash it like an angry raccoon with a power tool.
- Break the deposit with your Spike Saw. In 1.0, weak points now appear, hit them for extra damage and less embarrassment.
- Pick up the big chunks with your mech. Hauling them home is worth it.
- Process the chunks in a Mineral Crusher. You’ll get noticeably more Nickel Ore than if you just break everything on the spot.
- Build a Mineral Extractor next to a large deposit. It generates extra minerals every day. This is the difference between scavenging and having a steady supply.
Some deposits respawn over in-game days, others are one-time only. Learn to tell the difference (the art is different) and only stamp the ones that come back.
New 1.0 Tools That Make This Way Easier
The full release finally gave us the tools we deserved:
- Resource Scanner: Open your map and use it. It literally points you toward resources. I have no idea how we survived without this.
- Text-enabled map stamps: You can now actually write Nickel Beach, Do Not Forget instead of hoping you’ll remember what that random icon meant three days later.
If you’re still running around the map like a headless chicken, the Resource Scanner is about to become your best friend.
What Is Nickel Actually Used For?

In the current 1.0 build you’ll mainly need it for early electronics and a few mech-related recipes (Bronze Electronics is the big one most players hit first). Exact recipes shifted a bit with the milestone rebalance, so always double-check your crafting stations rather than trusting an old list. And yes it’s not an endgame resource, but running out of it mid-progression feels personal.
Think of it as the cosmic equivalent of looking for your keys while they’re already in your hand.
