Gothic Remake Ending: Are There Multiple Endings?

As you survive the treacherous prison colony and align with various factions, you might wonder how your moral decisions alter the Gothic Remake ending. While the RPG offers deep roleplaying freedom, the final destination is more fixed than you might expect.
Here is a concise, spoiler-filled breakdown (be cautious!) of the game’s finale, the ultimate boss fights and how it sets up the sequel.
What You Will Read:
Are There Multiple Endings?
Despite the branching paths and the choice between the Old, New or Swamp Camps, there is only one definitive ending.
Your actions dictate who lives, who dies and the flavor of your journey. However, the main narrative always funnels into the same final act. The game prioritizes the journey over a multitude of distinct conclusions. In other words, enjoy the ride!
Gothic Remake Ending Explained
No matter which camp you choose to join in Gothic Remake, the Hero eventually becomes involved with the Water Mages of the New Camp. These mages are searching for a way to bring down the magical barrier and finally allow the prisoners to escape the colony.

As the story unfolds, it becomes clear that the barrier’s creation was no accident. The spell cast by the mages interfered with an ancient Orc ritual that was underway at the same time. The Orcs were attempting to summon the Sleeper. It is a powerful demonic entity they believed would help them defeat humanity.
In a twist of fate, this is the very same being worshipped by the members of the Swamp Camp, who mistakenly regard it as a divine power rather than the threat it truly is.
The Lead-Up to the Climax
The final goal is to help the New Camp’s Water Mages destroy the magical dome trapping everyone. However, things quickly unravel:
- The Barrier’s True Source: The original spell went awry because it interfered with an Orc ritual meant to summon The Sleeper. Its power is what actually anchors the barrier.
- The Old Camp’s Betrayal: When the Old Camp’s ore mine collapses, their leaders panic and attack the New Camp to seize control of their resources.
- The Escape Plan Fails: This assault results in the death of the Fire Mages and cripples the Water Mages’ escape plan. This forces the protagonist to confront the Sleeper directly.

The Final Boss Fights
To reach the true Gothic Remake ending, you must venture deep into the Sleeper’s subterranean temple and survive two major encounters:
Mad Cor Kalom: The crazed cult leader believes he is the Sleeper’s chosen avatar. He plans to usher in an era of “fire and justice” and will attempt to destroy you for interfering.

The Sleeper: After defeating Kalom, you face the demonic deity itself. You cannot kill it through brute force. You must locate and pierce the five Orc shaman hearts that tether the demon to the mortal realm.
Note: equip the legendary sword Uriziel to defeat Sleeper. Ensure you are wearing the Ore Armor, ideally upgraded by Stone, to survive the intense fire and melee damage.
The Aftermath and Sequel Setup
Banishing the Sleeper instantly dissolves the magical barrier. However, victory comes at a steep price:
The Hero’s Fate: The magical shockwave causes the temple to collapse. The protagonist is buried under a mountain of rubble. The game fades to black.

The State of the World: The narrative flows directly into Gothic 2. The hero survives but is severely weakened. Meanwhile, the escaped convicts form a rebel army to overthrow a tyrannical King who has lost his supply of magical ore.
