Sacred Tear Locations

Elden Ring Church of Repose Sacred Tear Location

The Elden Ring Church of Repose Sacred Tear sits at the foot of the big Marika statue inside a ruined church on Flame Peak, in the southern Mountaintops of the Giants. It’s one of two Sacred Tear locations in the region, and it’s an optional detour that’s easy to miss. Bloody Finger Okina also crashes your arrival, which is a rude welcome. Below is the exact route and how to deal with him.

Church of Repose Sacred Tear Location

The Church of Repose Sacred Tear is on Flame Peak in the southern Mountaintops of the Giants, just west of the Foot of the Forge Site of Grace.

Church of Repose Mountaintop of the Giants Sacred Tear

Step inside the ruined church and find the large Marika statue. The Sacred Tear is lying at its base. The church has its own Site of Grace inside, so you can spend the tear right away.

Nothing guards the tear itself. No boss, no puzzle. The hard part is getting there, and the invader waiting outside is a big reason why.

How to Get to the Church of Repose

Before you get to the Church of Repose, you need to beat Morgott, the Omen King, in Leyndell. Melina then gives you the Rold Medallion, which lets you use the Grand Lift of Rold to reach the Mountaintops. Castle Sol is a side trip, so skip it.

Cross the Mountaintops through Freezing Lake, Whiteridge Road, and the Guardians’ Garrison. Then take the giant chain across and unlock Giants’ Gravepost.

From there, ride southwest and uphill through the frozen giant corpses. It’s easy to get turned around because every direction looks like a pile of frozen giants. Keep climbing and look to the west for the ruined church.

Already unlocked Foot of the Forge? Just head west from that grace.

Bloody Finger Okina at the Church of Repose

Get close to the church and the game yanks you off Torrent. Here, you will see the lovely Bloody Finger Okina invading.

He hits with bloody slashes that stack hemorrhage fast, so stay out of their range. Okina doesn’t heal and staggers easily, which makes chip damage and a stagger-friendly weapon a solid plan.

Here’s a trick I like: sprint into the church and touch the Site of Grace first. If he kills you, you respawn right next to him instead of making the long ride back.

Beating him drops Rivers of Blood, the Okina Mask and 11,155 runes. The Sacred Tear isn’t one of his drops, and none of the sources I checked say you have to kill him first. Fight him for the katana, not the tear.

What Else Is Near the Church of Repose

Don’t ride off yet. Two good items are a short trip away, and neither is inside the church.

Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone: Climb to the mouth of the giant skull southeast of the church. The stone is in there. Some guides say the eye, but the mouth is where it actually is.

Ash of War: Troll’s Roar: Use the Spiritspring and ride up to the top of the skull.

The approach from Giants’ Gravepost also has an Arteria Leaf, five Fan Daggers and two Warming Stones. Watch out for the big bird near some of them.

FAQ

Bloody Finger Okina isn’t showing up. What now?

Some players say resting at a grace and reloading the game brings him back. That’s unverified, but it doesn’t hurt to test it. Others report him invading even after Fire Giant, so don’t assume the boss killed him off.

My flask is still at +11 after visiting every church. Why?

Visiting a church isn’t enough. You have to grab the gold pickup at the statue and spend it at a grace. The easiest one to overlook is First Church of Marika, the other is Mountaintop Tear.

Do Sacred Tears upgrade the Flask of Wondrous Physick?

No. They only boost your Crimson and Cerulean Flasks. The Physick runs on Crystal Tears, which are a different item.
