Javier Escuella, at some point during Chapter 2 when he’s preparing poisoned knives, asks Arthur to bring him Oleander Sage. You can find plenty of Oleander Sage in Bayou Nwa, Lemoyne. Let’s find some first, then look at how to trigger and complete Javier’s Oleander Sage item request in RDR2.

Where to Find Oleander Sage in RDR2
Oleander Sage grows along riverbanks in Bayou Nwa, Lemoyne. You can find it in several locations, but the spot where I always find them is north of Bluewater Marsh and Lagras, just like I highlighted on the map.
You should be able to spot it easily. It has thin leaves and small pink flowers with five petals. I’ll give you a little heads-up: Oleander Sage is a poisonous herb, so make sure to pick it up, not eat it. You can use it for crafting to apply poison to throwing knives and arrows.
How to Trigger Javier’s Oleander Sage Request
To trigger Javier’s Oleander Sage request, hang around camp in Chapter 2 from 8 AM to 8 PM. Find him at camp when he’s poisoning the tips of his knives at the dominoes table. Arthur walks up to him and asks why he’s doing what he’s doing, to which he replies, “Makes for a quicker kill. You can take down a bear with one of these.”
Then he asks Arthur to get him some Oleander so that he can show Arthur how to make poisoned knives. Since camp requests can appear randomly, check again if he isn’t poisoning his knives. Don’t progress beyond Chapter 2 before you trigger the quest because you can complete it later, even in Chapter 3.
How to Complete Javier’s Request and Get the Reward
After you’ve triggered Javier’s Oleander Sage request, return to camp with the herb and interact with him then select “Give Request.” Your reward is Poison Throwing Knives.
Check Arthur’s sleeping area to collect the reward and finish the request.
RDR2 Javier Request Not Working?
If Javier won’t make the request, make sure that you’re still in Chapter 2 and visit during the correct hours. If you’ve already delivered Oleander Sage but the request remains active, check near Arthur’s bed for your reward. The reward may take an in-game day to appear.
I usually sleep until the next day and then the reward is waiting by Arthur’s wagon. You might also struggle to pick it up if you’re already carrying the maximum number of that item. So make sure to have enough space in your satchel.
