How to Romance Yennefer in The Witcher 3: Quests, Choices & Endings

Yennefer of Vengerberg, one of the prominent love interests of Geralt of Rivia, is also a main romance option in the game The Witcher 3. In this guide, we go over her scenes and the choices that would lead to her being your final love interest in the game.
Step-by-step guide to capture the raven-haired sorceress’s heart
Who is Yennefer of Vengerberg.
Yennefer of Vengerberg, born Janka on Belleteyn, is a sorceress who lived in Vengerberg. She is Geralt of Rivia’s one true love (as mentioned in the books) and a mother figure to Ciri. She is also a main character in The Witcher 3 games, appearing multiple times, is strongly plot-relevant, and is also a main love interest for Geralt in the game.
First Contact
We first see Yennefer in the opening cinematic of the game, where she is fleeing for her life in the middle of a battlefield between Northern forces and Nilfgaardians. Having fully recovered her memories after her time captive at the hands of the Wild Hunt, she escapes the battlefield, but her trail is lost, leaving Geralt and Vesemir to ask around for her whereabouts.

Then we go through a dream sequence in which Geralt relives the time he spent with Ciri and Yennefer in Kaer Morhen, training the young Ciri, for it to be turned into a nightmare about the Wild Hunt.

You can interact with her items and learn tidbits about her in the dream and even have a brief conversation with her, though none of these serve any purpose in advancing the romance plotline.
The real first contact happens at the end of your main questline in White Orchard when Nilfgaardians soldiers arrive at the inn with Yennefer in tow with them. She has been informed that Geralt is looking for her after Geralt talks to Captain Peter Saar Gwynleve. She arrives with an escort and asks Geralt to follow her to Vizima to meet the emperor.

You would follow her to Vizima, amidst a Wild Hunt attack that kills your entire escort and costs you a bridge to keep them away from the two of you (Vesemir didn’t go to Vizima), and you meet the emperor and are tasked with finding your daughter, Ciri. There would be a long while before you could meet Yennefer again.

Meeting back again in Skellige
Simply play through the game’s two other locations, and DON’T romance Triss Merigold in Novigrad. If you have met the requirements for Triss romance, it’s strongly advised not to pursue Yennefer anymore.
The King is dead – Long live the King
You will meet Yennefer after the old king is cremated, and she tells you to wear nice clothes for the funeral wake in her room. This is the start of one of the main quests of the game “The King is Dead – Long Live the King”. Simply put on clothes and meet Yennefer at the gates of Kaer Trolde.

If you don’t choose the nice clothes left in a chest in her room, she will scold you, but this won’t have any effect on the romance route. (Wearing black and white clothes will earn you praise from Yennefer. Just remember to equip the clothes and also unequip your gloves as well.)

Enjoy the feast and meet people until Yennefer asks to talk with you in private. You’ll bump into two Jarls quarreling. After a short conversation, Madman Lugos insults Yennefer. You’d have the option to beat him up for it; just know that winning or losing won’t have much of an effect on the romance progression, though the same can’t be said for your ego!

Yennefer will tell you her plan to steal a mask from Ermion’s laboratory beneath the castle that would allow her to speak with the dead.

Follow her and complete the quest; fight the hallucinations. Kill the golem defending the mask. Gas will fill up the room, and then you are offered two choices.

Here lies the very first important choice in Yennefer’s romance.
- We’re gonna choke and die
- Damn, I wanna kiss you, Yen.
Choose “Damn, I wanna kiss you, Yen.” And Yennefer will transport both of you out of the lab and into her bedroom
After finding yourself back in her room, Yennefer claims she has torn a hole in her dress and needs to fix it. Here you also have to make an important choice.

- Wouldn’t mind watching …
- We should get back to the wake.
Choose the first one and have a lovely scene with Yennefer.
The rest of the quests in Skellige are not related to her romance route except one, so don’t stress over them too much.
The next quest that we need to focus on is “The Last Wish”
The Last Wish
Yennefer will ask to meet you near Latvik, where she tells you about a mage looking for djinns who was lost around here years ago. Follow through with her quest and stay with her until the very end. You can get some great dialogue out of the two as they attempt to find the djinn.

Near the end of the quest, after Yennefer breaks the magical bond between her and Geralt, you have a choice to make.

- I still love you, too.
- Sorry, but I don’t want to be with you anymore.
Choose “I still love you, too” and solidify the romance with the raven-haired sorcerer. Afterwards, evade Triss Merigold like the plague, and Yennefer will be chosen as Geralt’s final lover.
Bonus Romance scene
There’s one more time when you can be intimate with Yennefer, and that happens right after your conversation with Ida Emean. When Eskel and Lambert want you to join them for a drink, Yennefer asks you aside for a conversation and is rather blunt with her request. You now have two choices:

- Sounds great
- Don’t get mad but …
Choosing the first option will result in the scene, but choosing the second option won’t impact your romance much either; you’ll just lose a possible scene.
Yennefer’s Epilogue
If you choose Yennefer as your one true love, she will appear in the ending, and Geralt and Yen’s life is described as very casual and lazy, both sleeping in for most days, eating breakfast late, taking long walks, and having longer conversations, all away from the politics of the world.

Appearance in Toussaint
If you have the remastered edition of the game, which includes all the DLCs, you will get a house at Corvo Bianco. By the end of the expansion, your selected lover, in this case Yennefer, will arrive at the House as a surprise guest.

Far from their serious conversations throughout the game, here Yennefer and Geralt banter like an old couple, talking about books, dresses, and the weather in Toussaint.
