Mary-Beth’s Fountain Pen request in Red Dead Redemption 2 looks like another fetch request, but it takes you to one of the game’s darker and more poignant stories. To get this small gift for Mary-Beth, Arthur has to visit Osman Grove, a forgotten cabin with a somewhat tragic history waiting inside.

How to Trigger Mary-Beth’s Fountain Pen Request in RDR2
To trigger Mary-Beth’s Fountain Pen camp item request, approach her while she’s writing in the camp. It’s always worked for me this way. So interact with her and greet her while she’s writing. Arthur then asks her, “How’s the writing?” To which she replies and talks about her frustration.
She then says, “One day, I’d love a beautiful fountain pen and a… great desk in a quiet room and… to write the most beautiful stories.” Arthur then takes this to heart and tells Mary-Beth that he can’t do much about stories or a quiet room, but he’ll find her a pen. This officially kicks off the Fountain Pen item request.
How to Get Mary-Beth’s Fountain Pen: Osman Grove Cabin Location
To find the Fountain Pen for Mary-Beth, head east of Emerald Ranch to the Osman Grove cabin, which is west of the Kamassa River.
When you get there, you have to kick the door open. When you get inside, you see that a small family has been dead inside for a long time. You also notice some sort of smoke in the cabin that looks like it’s been there forever.
It turns out the pipe from the furnace was broken and with the doors locked from the inside, all the smoke got trapped in the cabin, which eventually and unfortunately, of course, suffocated the entire family.
So, there’s a drawer next to the dead lady on the chair. Open the drawer and here you’ve found Mary-Beth a beautiful Fountain Pen. On the drawer also lies the Otis Miller and the Black-Hearted Lady book, which Jack requests at some point early in the story. Make sure to pick it up if you don’t want to come back again and remember what happened here.
How to Complete the Mary-Beth’s Request
After all is said and done, get back to the camp and find Mary-Beth. When you do, interact with her and select “Give Request.” Mary-Beth then thanks Arthur and gives him a gold wedding ring to somehow return the favor. It also boosts your honor a little bit.
Funny thing is, when she’s giving that to Arthur, he says, “Please take this. Something I acquired along the way,” which indicates it wasn’t hers to give to begin with. But then again, here we are.
