Gothic Remake Demon Guide: Mad Demon Final Boss Tips

If the Mad Demon is making you feel like you can’t beat him, then I’m here to prove you otherwise. In this Gothic Remake Demon guide, I give you the exact combat strats you need to easily crush the last boss and take down any regular demons in your way throughout the whole playthrough.

I’ll also show you how to get the Summon Demon scroll and completely bypass that game-breaking glitch so you can finally banish the Sleeper. Let’s begin.

How to Beat the Mad Demon in Gothic Remake

The Mad Demon serves as the final boss in the Gothic Remake. You must defeat him to banish the Sleeper from the world. Don’t use the Uriziel sword against him, as he resists its magic and flame damage. Instead, use Gomez‘s sword, Innos’ Rage, to inflict physical damage.

Mad Demon Attack Patterns and Moveset

The Mad Demon shoots a laser beam from his eyes that can wipe out almost half of your health in a single hit. Because the casting animation is so long, it’s difficult to dodge and often hits you during your roll recovery.

When he raises one arm over his shoulder, he summons some really annoying hands out of the ground that keep following you. If they catch you while you’re slowed or knocked over by another attack, they’ll kill you in a heartbeat, so yeah, that’s pretty brutal.

The Best Strategy to Defeat the Final Boss

Stand just outside the ring to start, and when he flies in, run in for two quick attacks. Roll out once and dodge once to avoid his fire. Keep rolling around him in a continuous circle to dodge his attacks and stay away from the hands.

Pay close attention and wait for the hands to disappear completely. When they stop, attack twice and roll to the right behind him, then attack again. Never try to attack while rolling away from the arms.

You can summon multiple creatures, such as demons or skeletons, before interacting with the heart to help fight him. However, be careful, as summoning too many creatures can cause the Mad Demon to get stuck hovering over the magma.

This will soft-lock your game because you must execute him to end the fight.

How to Fix the Xardas Demon Bug (Patch 1.0.2)

Apparently, a nasty Patch 1.0.2 glitch completely halts your main quest because the Gothic Remake Xardas demon won’t talk to accept the golem hearts. Try these workarounds if you’re dealing with the Xardas demon bug on PS5 or PC

If you’re playing on PC, right-click the game in Steam, go to Properties, select Game Versions & Betas, and choose the “previous release” or June 17th public beta build. Speak to the demon and save your game. Only then should you switch back to the “Default Public Version.” Saved games will remain compatible.

If you’re playing on console, defeat the golems and collect all of their hearts before you ever travel to Xardas’s tower. Approach the demon only after you have all the hearts in your inventory. This forces the automatic conversation to trigger properly.

Demons in Gothic Remake: Lore and Locations

Now that you know how to defeat the game’s final boss, let’s take a step back and look at the broader lore and mechanics of standard demons found throughout the Colony. What are demons? Demons are powerful creatures from hell.

They are loyal to their evil masters and serve Beliar, the god of darkness. They stand for hatred and destruction. You run into them deep inside the ancient Sleeper Temple or guarding the necromancer Xardas in his lonely tower in the Orc lands.

Where to Find the Summon Demon Scroll

The Summon Demon scroll is a powerful consumable magic item that calls forth a Fire Demon to fight alongside you. The initial mana cost to cast the spell is 20, and the summoned creature lasts for one minute.

The most reliable way to get this scroll is by buying it from Xardas at his tower in the Orc lands. He starts stocking it in Chapter 4. It costs you 375 Ore Nuggets, which is a fair price considering what the spell does for you. You can knock down Xardas and loot him to get the Summon Demon scroll, too.

There’s no permanent rune for the Summon Demon spell, so you’re limited to the consumable scrolls you buy or find. You can stack multiple summon spells at once, which lets you build a small army.

Best Spells & Tactics Against Demons and Demon Lords

Because they’re completely immune to fire magic, you’re required very specific combat strategies to expose Gothic 1 Remake Demon Lord weaknesses.

Start charging Ball Lightning as soon as the demon appears from the ground. Aim at their feet so the explosion deals double damage. While the demon is stunned by the lightning explosion, immediately roll behind it and begin charging your next Ball Lightning. The spell can reliably stunlock them throughout the fight.

Alternatively, you can bait the demon into using its fire breath attack and hit it with a fully charged Ball Lightning while it’s locked in the animation.

Storm Fist is also highly effective for stunlocking enemies. You can also use three casts of Ice Block to freeze a demon, which gives you a safe window to deal damage with a blunt weapon.

How do you fix the Xardas demon bug?

If the Gothic Remake Xardas demon won’t talk to accept your golem hearts, your fix depends on your platform:
On PC (Steam): Right-click the game, go to Properties > Betas, roll back to the “previous release” or June 17th public beta build. Talk to the demon, save your game, switch back to the default version.
