WARDOGS Ghillie Suit: How to Unlock & How to Use It the Best

The WARDOGS ghillie suit is actually a two-piece stealth set (bodysuit and Headwear) that unlocks at Recon level 24. You must wear both pieces together and it gives excellent bush camouflage, completely hides you from Infrared Range Finders and removes the death cam after you get a kill, making it perfect for patient overwatch and spotting (especially vehicles for big money).

I’ll explain how you can unlock it and what it does. I’ll also try to help you decide whether does it even worth it or not. Read on for whatever you need to know.

What the Ghillie Suit Actually Is

The Ghillie suit is a two-piece camouflage set made specifically for stealth and long-range play. It consists of the Ghillie Body Suit (the main body piece) and the Ghillie Headwear (the head piece).

You must equip both pieces at the same time. Wearing only one does not give you the full benefits. There’s also a brown Dead pattern version of the exact same set that unlocks a little later. The green one blends better with most foliage, while the Dead version is more of a visual preference for drier or brown-heavy areas.

This isn’t regular armor with a camo skin. It’s a dedicated stealth outfit that completely changes how the game treats you in terms of visibility and information.

How to Unlock It

The regular green Ghillie set unlocks at Recon level 24.

That’s the hard gate. You can’t buy it earlier no matter how much cash you have. Once you hit Recon 24, both the Body Suit and Headwear become available to permanently unlock (one-time cash cost), after which you can purchase them every life from the vendor.

The brown Dead-pattern version follows the same rules but unlocks later at Recon level 27.

Most players reach this point by focusing hard on spotting (binoculars, monocular, rangefinder) because it gives steady Recon XP and cash at the same time. Pure sniping also works, but spotting is usually faster and safer while you’re grinding toward the suit.

How to Buy and Equip Ghillie Suit

Once unlocked, here’s the exact path:

  1. Open the vendor.
  2. Go to the Gear tab.
  3. Select Helmets.
  4. Switch over to the Camouflages section.

You’ll see the Ghillie Headwear and Ghillie Body Suit listed there (and the Dead versions once you reach level 27). Buy both, equip them in your loadout and you’re good to go.

Just remember, they take the armor and helmet slots, so you can’t mix them with regular protective gear.

What Ghillie Actually Does

This is where the suit becomes special.

Visual camouflage is excellent. When you’re sitting still in bushes or foliage, you blend in extremely well. A lot of players will walk or drive right past you if you’re patient.

It completely hides you from Infrared Range Finders. High-level players who run the IR rangefinder won’t see your thermal signature while you’re wearing the full set.

It also removes the death cam after you get a kill. Normally the game shows the enemy where the shot came from. With the full Ghillie on, that information is gone. This is a huge deal for staying hidden after you take someone out.

These three things together turn you into a proper information warfare player. You’re harder to spot and you don’t give away your position when you eliminate someone.

The Big Downside

The trade-off is serious, the Ghillie suit occupies your armor slots, so you wear zero protective armor.

You become very fragile. Bullets that a normal armored player would shrug off will drop you quickly. If someone spots you or pushes your position, the fight is usually over fast. There’s no middle ground here, full Ghillie means full glass cannon.

This is why a lot of players only run it when they plan to play pure overwatch or bush-camping. It’s not a flexible outfit.

How to Actually Use It Effectively

The Ghillie suit rewards patience and good positioning more than mechanical skill.

My personal approaches (which have had the best results) are these:

Find solid natural cover (thick bushes, tree lines, rocky outcrops with foliage). Go prone or crouched and stay still.

Spend most of your time spotting. Vehicles are especially valuable, marking them can print a lot of money.

Oh, and try to take clean, deliberate shots when the opportunity is good. Relocate only when you feel your position is compromised.

It pairs naturally with quieter or longer-range weapons like the compound bow, SV98 or the Mark 22 (.308). The bow is especially fun with the suit because it’s silent and keeps your profile low.

If your team is trying to pull the Hot Zone, a Ghillie player locking down capturing drill towers from the bushes can completely shut down enemy pushes.

Practical Tips from Real Use

As always, Torin won’t let you go without his final tips. Read them and I hope they make your team proud of you:

  • Spotting while wearing the Ghillie is one of the best ways to make money and keep leveling Recon. Vehicles and FOBs pay especially well.
  • Don’t force multi-kills. One or two good eliminations plus a bunch of spots is often more valuable (and safer) than greedily trying to farm.
  • The Dead pattern works the same as the regular one, same effects, just different looks. Choose based on the map and your personal preference.
  • Expect to die more while you’re learning the playstyle. The lack of armor is punishing until you get used to playing much more carefully and choosing better positions.
  • Once you get comfortable, the suit becomes extremely strong for controlling areas of the map through pure presence and information.
