How to Unlock the Bioreactor Subnautica 2 (& Crafting)

You need a solid power source for your base in Subnautica 2, and the Bioreactor is easily the best one. It converts biological matter into usable electricity. Finding the blueprints for it takes some effort, though. Keep reading this Subnautica 2 Bioreactor guide to find out exactly where to get the fragments and how to set them up.

Subnautica 2 Bioreactor Location Quick Answer

You need to scan three fragments scattered around the map to unlock the blueprint. Here is exactly where you can find them. Find the detailed visual answer further below:

What Is the Bioreactor Subnautica 2?

The Bioreactor is an interior power generator. You need to place it inside a room in your base. It rapidly decays organic matter like plants, small fish and sludge into usable electricity. This makes it incredibly reliable before you get the chance to set up external power systems.

The Bioreactor has these three modes of operation with different energy output:

ModeEnergy Per SecondFuel Burn Rate
Off0None
Normal10Standard
Overdrive20Double

Where to Find Bioreactor Fragments in Subnautica 2

You need to scan three fragments to unlock the blueprint. They are scattered around the map. Here is exactly where you can find them.

Fragment 1 Location

Position yourself right next to the Lifepod. Head straight south-southeast at around a 160 bearing. Keep moving straight in that direction until you see a rock spire directly in front of you. Move slightly to the left of the spire and continue forward until you spot wreckage. Go inside the wreckage, and you will find the first fragment inside a box.

Fragment 2 Location

Start exactly where you found the first fragment and head straight north. You will see another rock spire that breaks the surface of the water. Dive down and enter the cave at this location, then head inside the habitat structure. The second bioreactor fragment is sitting just to the right of the habitat.

Fragment 3 Location

Go back to your main landmark at the Lifepod. From there, make your way north at around a 20 bearing. You will need to travel about 400 meters away. Keep heading in the same direction past a huge coral formation. When you see a huge jellyfish right up ahead, look for another piece of wreckage. The final fragment is located inside a container.

How to Build the Bioreactor

You have the blueprints. Now it is time to build it. Grab your Habitat Builder tool. You can find the Bioreactor under the Interior Facilities and Power menu. You need two Titanium Ingots and two Copper Ingots to construct it.

Crafting the Processor and Ingots

You need a Processor to make these ingots. You can find Processor fragments hidden inside the Old Habitat POI. One Titanium Ingot costs three raw titanium. One Copper Ingot costs three raw copper. Toss your raw materials into the Processor. Each ingot takes 30 seconds to finish. Make two of each and you are totally set.

Can’t place Bioreactor in Subnautica 2? The reason is that the Bioreactor can only be created in a multipurpose room.

Subnautica 2 Best Fuel for Bioreactor

You can throw almost any plant or fish into the machine. But some fuels are way better than others. Biofuel Blocks are your best option for the early game. They burn much more slowly than standard organic matter. Make them in the Processor with 5 Fibrous Pulp, 3 Pent, or 2 crab feces.

Here is a quick look at the best fuel types and their stats:

Fuel TypeTotal PowerBurn Duration
Biofuel Block36,0001 hour
Water Slug18,00030 minutes
Acidic Raion Pouch6,00010 minutes
Necrolei Cyst, Lucifer Rotsac, or Pent1,2002 minutes

If you’ve done everything right, your base should run on Bioreactor by now. Still having problems? Let me know in the comments and I’ll find out the solution for you.,

FAQ

Is the Bioreactor better than other power sources?

Yes. The Bioreactor is a five-star power source. Hydroelectric Turbines need natural underwater currents. Thermal Plants require magma vents or desert geysers. Solar Panels completely stop working past 200 meters. The Bioreactor works anywhere inside your base.

How do you overcharge the Bioreactor?

You just switch the machine to Subnautica 2 Bioreactor Overdrive mode. This doubles the output to 20 energy per second. It is perfect for boosting your power at night when solar panels drop in capacity. But be careful. It burns your fuel at double the speed.

What is the best early-game fuel?

Biofuel Blocks are definitely your best option. They provide 36,000 total power. They also have a burn duration of a full hour. They decay much more slowly than raw fish or plants. You can craft them using Fibrous Pulp, Pent, or crab feces.

Why can’t I place Bioreactor in Subnautica 2?

The reason is that the Bioreactor can only be created in a multipurpose room.

What is the Best Fuel for the Bioreactor in Subnautica 2?

Biofuel Blocks are your best option for the early game. They burn much more slowly than other fuel sources and produce much more power.
