How to Get Copper in Solarpunk: Complete Guide

Are you trying to craft advanced electric tools but find yourself completely out of Solarpunk Copper? While tracking down this essential mineral might seem a bit confusing at first, it is quite straightforward once you know the exact steps.

Here is a quick guide on how to locate copper ore and turn it into usable bars.

Quick Guide: Get Copper

  • Prerequisite: Build a personal Airship Dock to reach the copper resource island.
  • Location: Look to the horizon and fly directly north of your starting base island.
  • Supply: Surface rocks grant 7–8 pieces of ore
  • Co-op Rule: Airships are personal. Each player in a multiplayer session must construct their own dock.
  • Smelting: Process up to 16 ore at a time using wood or wax briquettes in a Furnace (Tier 2 Research).

Requirements before Finding Copper

Before you can start mining, you need to construct an Airship Dock. If you are playing in a multiplayer co-op session, keep in mind that airships are restricted to personal use. This means your friends cannot ride with you. Every player must build their own individual dock to fly.

Where to Find Copper Ore

Once your transport is ready, hop in and head over to the smaller, second island located directly north of your main base. You do not even need to unlock the in-game map to find it, as it is easily visible floating in the distance from the edge of your starting island.

How to Get Solarpunk Copper

Upon landing, you will notice large brown rocks and flat patches of ground. Breaking the standard rocks yields roughly seven to eight pieces of copper ore.

Pro-Tip: Use cheap stone pickaxes to preserve the durability of your advanced iron tools while mining.

Tool Management and Resource Gathering

Because it takes multiple swings to extract the minerals, your tools will break incredibly fast. It is a much better strategy to use basic stone pickaxes rather than draining the durability of your valuable iron tools.

Make sure to pack plenty of sticks and stones before you leave home so you can build replacement pickaxes on the fly.

You can also forage the island for extra wood. However, if you chop down trees, it is highly recommended to replant them so the island does not become a barren wasteland. Later in the game, you will be able to unlock a Drill to fully automate this entire mining process using electrical power.

Smelting Copper Bars

To turn your raw materials into usable items, you must use a Furnace, which you unlock at research tier two. Simply insert up to 16 pieces of ore at a time, add a fuel source like standard wood or highly efficient wax briquettes and wait for them to smelt.

If you want to speed up your production, building multiple furnaces side-by-side is the best way to go!
