Divine Tower of Limgrave – Godrick’s Great Rune

You’ve beaten Godrick the Grafted, and you’re probably holding his Great Rune, wondering what to do with it. The game doesn’t exactly hold your hand here, so let me break down everything you need to know about the Divine Tower of Limgrave and Godrick’s Great Rune. This is one of the most important early-game power spikes you can get, so let’s make sure you don’t miss it.
About Divine Tower of Limgrave:
A Quick Reality Check
That Great Rune you got from Godrick? It’s useless right now. It’s a broken, inert shard of the Elden Ring. To get any benefit from it, you have to restore its power at a specific location: the Divine Tower of Limgrave. Once you do that, you can equip it at a Site of Grace. But even then, its power isn’t always on. You’ll need to consume a Rune Arc to activate its effects until your next death.
How to Get to the Divine Tower of Limgrave
This is the first hurdle. The Divine Tower is the one you can see jutting out into the ocean to the east of Stormveil Castle. You can’t just walk there from the open world; the entrance is hidden within the castle itself.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough
I’ve summarized the steps to the Divine Tower in the clearest way possible. Just follow them:
Fast Travel to the “Liftside Chamber” Site of Grace. This is the safest and most direct starting point.

Exit through the eastern doorway. From the grace, head outside into the main courtyard area with all the enemy encampments and ballistae.

Head southeast. Don’t try to fight everything here. The ballista bolts will tear you apart. Your goal is to run past the troops and down a set of stone stairs heading southeast.

Follow the path. This staircase will curve south. Keep running and dodging the enemies and ballista fire. At the bottom, you’ll pass through a small archway into a larger courtyard.
Find the passage. In the center of this courtyard, look east. You’ll see a passageway leading through a group of knight statues. Head through there.

Reach the “Limgrave Tower Bridge” Site of Grace. Once you exit the hallway, you’ll find this grace right in front of you. Rest here to reset and prepare for the next challenge.
Alternative Route: If You Opened the Main Gate
My guide above assumes you took the standard side path through Stormveil. But if you spoke to Gatekeeper Gostoc at the main gate entrance and accepted his offer to open the front gates for you, there’s a more direct (and considerably more dangerous) way to reach the tower bridge.
Instead of winding through the castle’s interior, you can simply enter through the main gate and push straight through the courtyard. The path is shorter, but you’ll have to deal with heavy enemy concentrations and ballista fire head-on. Sprint past the barricades, take a right to dodge the worst of it, and you’ll eventually reach the Limgrave Tower Bridge Site of Grace from the front.
My take: The side route is safer for most players, especially on a first playthrough. The main gate is a gauntlet. But if you’re confident in your dodging or just want to save time on a subsequent run, the front door is absolutely viable.
Crossing the Bridge of the Golems
Now for the fun part. From the grace, head up the steps onto the massive, broken bridge. Your goal is the teleporter at the very end. Standing in your way are three giant, reanimated stone Golems.

Two Golems are melee-focused, and one at the back is an archer. You have two options here:
Fighting is one of them. If you want the runes, take them on. Focus on attacking their ankles to stagger them, then go for a critical hit on their chest. You can also bait the melee golems into the archer’s line of fire, letting them damage each other.
Running is my preferred method. Just sprint. Weave past the first two and dodge the arrows from the third. A quick, zig-zagging sprint will get you past them all without taking a hit.
At the broken end of the bridge, right behind the archer golem, you’ll find a glowing waygate. Activate it, and it will transport you directly to the base of the Divine Tower.

Activating the Great Rune
You’re almost there. Once you teleport:
Open the doors first. Walk up to the massive double doors and push them. They will only unlock if you have Godrick’s Great Rune in your inventory.

Inside, you’ll find a lift. Step on the mechanism to ride it to the top. At the top, you’ll find another Site of Grace (make sure to rest here). Then, continue up the stairs to the very summit.

At the peak, you’ll see a massive, withered set of Two Fingers with a glowing golden rune floating between them. Don’t worry, they’re completely passive and won’t attack you.
Simply walk up to the glowing sigil and interact with it. Your character will touch it, and you’ll get a message confirming that Godrick’s Great Rune has been restored.
Don’t Leave Without These Two Items
The Great Rune restoration is your main goal, but the tower has two excellent pieces of loot you’d be a fool to miss. Grab them while you’re here.
- Boltdrake Talisman: Look for a corpse on the stairs leading up to the bridge. Loot it for this talisman, which boosts your lightning damage negation. It’s situational, but lightning damage is common enough in the late game that you’ll be glad you have it.
- Ash-of-War Scarab (Helm): This one is easy to miss. Right before you step through the waygate that teleports you to the tower, look for a ledge you can drop down behind it. Drop down, and you’ll find this unique helmet. It reduces the FP cost of your equipped Ash of War skills. A fantastic utility piece for any build that relies on weapon arts.
How to Use Godrick’s Great Rune
With the rune restored, you can now finally put it to use.
Rest at any Site of Grace. A new option will appear in the menu called “Great Runes”. Select it and equip Godrick’s Great Rune.
Equipping it isn’t enough. To actually gain its benefits, you must consume a Rune Arc from your inventory. The effect will last until you die. Once you die, the effect is gone, and you’ll need to use another Rune Arc to reactivate it.
The Reward: What Does It Actually Do?
As I said, Godrick’s Great Rune is the best early-game Rune because of its incredible versatility. When activated with a Rune Arc, it raises all of your attributes by +5.
- For Melee Players: This is a massive boost. It increases your Strength and Dexterity for more damage, Vigor for more HP, and Endurance for more stamina.
- For Casters: It gives you +5 to Intelligence, Faith, or Arcane, directly increasing your spell damage, while also giving you more Mind for FP and more Vigor for survivability.
- For Everyone: It gives you a flat boost to your HP, FP, and Stamina, making you tankier and able to fight longer. It’s a phenomenal all-around buff that makes every build better.
Final Tips from a Veteran
Don’t Sleep on This. Getting this rune active is a massive power spike. It’s like gaining five extra levels in every stat. Make it a priority after beating Godrick.
Oh, and don’t forget to save your Rune Arcs. Rune Arcs are a finite resource. Don’t waste them on easy enemies. Save them for tough boss fights or difficult areas where that extra boost will make the difference between victory and death.
