The Gothic 1 Remake Banner of Banners is a vital story mission in the game. You need to finish this objective to safely explore Orc territories. If you want to start the quest, you must first talk to Ur-Shak near Xardas’ tower. He will tell you to gather four rare monster parts. You must then take these trophies to an imprisoned Orc named Tarrok, so he can craft the Ulu-Mulu artifact for you.

Where to Find All Ulu-Mulu Ingredients
You need to hunt down four specific bosses across the colony. Each creature presents a different combat challenge. Here you can see the location of each one on the map:
Fire Lizard Location
You can find the Fire Lizard at Shipwreck Beach. Head toward the eastern shoreline near the boat map icon and Diego’s lighthouse. This creature patrols the sand and uses powerful fire attacks. You should keep your distance if your health is low. Defeat the monster and loot its tongue from the body.
Great Shadowbeast Location
The Great Shadowbeast hides in a dark cave, and it hits incredibly hard in melee combat. Taking it head-on is risky. Instead, I highly recommend utilizing magic to gain the upper hand. You can fast travel to Xardas and purchase a summon golem scroll from him.
Once you return to the cave entrance, use the scroll to bring a Stone Golem into the fight. The golem will charge in and draw the monster’s aggression. While the beast is focused on fighting your minion, pull out your strongest heavy weapon and strike the boss from behind. Be prepared to back away and heal the moment it turns its attention toward you. Once the creature falls, grab its horn.

Swampshark Mother Location
Travel to the Swamp Camp region to find this next target. Look for a wooden log bridge guarded by a Templar, then walk left at an angle toward the forest edge. The Swampshark Mother waits in a small grassy area near a tree and a waterfall. You will recognize her easily because she is much larger and whiter than the standard swamp sharks. Slay her to collect the teeth.
Troll Location
The Troll lives in the northern mountains. This is the exact same area where you completed the Focus Stone quest with Milton. You need to head up the hill, pass the cave, and climb the stone stairs. Trolls have massive health pools. You must block every single attack carefully, then strike back once before it swings again.
Some community members report a glitch where the Troll drops zero loot upon death. If this happens to you, reload your save and try a different spell type. For example, Ball Lightning often works if standard fire spells cause the loot bug. Grab the tusks once the beast falls.
How to Find Tarrok in Gothic 1 Remake
Once you have all four trophies, you must travel to the New Camp. Your goal is to reach the deep underground quarry and mine system. Some players also refer to this area as the Free Mine. Follow these exact steps so you do not get lost in the tunnels:
- Fast travel to the New Camp.
- Walk through the village area and hug the left wall constantly.
- Pass the NPC named Wolf and enter the cave ahead.
- Follow the linear tunnel down into the open quarry area.
- Descend to the very bottom of the quarry until you reach a closed gateway guarded by enemies.
- Eliminate the human guards.
- Look for a small room on your left.
- Spin the wheel inside this room to open the main gate.
- Walk through the gate and follow the large spiral pathway all the way down.
- Crouch under the stone wall, go down the stairs, and kill the spider enemies in the water.
- Look to your right to find Tarrok inside a prison cell.
Save your game before you approach the cell. Players have reported a bug where the Orc gets stuck inside the door geometry, so a backup save is recommended.
Craft and Claim the Ulu-Mulu
Talk to Tarrok through the bars. Hand over the tongue, horn, teeth, and tusks. He will be happy with your work and will start crafting the Ulu-Mulu.
Wait for him to finish the process. A known bug might cause him to freeze during this animation. If he refuses to build it and just stares at you, you will need to reload your previous save. Once the item is finally ready, Tarrok will turn hostile. He wants a final, honorable legacy battle for the weapon. Defeat him in melee combat by blocking his strikes and countering. When he drops to the floor, loot his body to claim the Ulu-Mulu and finish the quest.
