What Are Runes in Gothic Remake
Runes are permanent, inexhaustible sources of magic. As long as your character has enough mana, you can cast rune spells infinitely without them breaking. Runes cover a wide variety of effects, including offensive attacks (like Fireball and Wave of Ice), support magic (like Healing and Light) and movement abilities (like Teleportation).
How to Unlock Rune Magic Early
To start using Gothic Remake Runes, you will need training from an NPC in the Old Camp.
Find Torrez in the Old Camp
Your first stop is Torrez, the mage trainer who introduces you to rune magic. He will not teach you immediately. You must bring him two items:
- Parchment: buy this from Graham in the Old Camp.
- Wolf Claws: purchase these from Mordrag.
After delivering the items, Torrez will agree to train you in rune magic.

Learn Your First Rune Spell
Once rune magic is unlocked, you can spend 5 Learning Points (LP) to learn your first spell. Torrez lets you choose between:
- Firebolt: an offensive spell ideal for combat-focused mages.
- Healing: a support spell that improves survivability early on.
Choose the one that best fits your preferred playstyle, but remember: after you become a Fire Mage or a Water Mage, you will eventually gain access to many more spells and runes as your magic circles increase.

Tips for Aspiring Mages
Prioritize Mana and Learning Points if you plan to focus on magic.
Keep a few scrolls handy even after unlocking runes. They can provide unique abilities runes do not offer.
Unlocking rune magic early gives you a huge advantage in exploration and combat, especially once you gain access to stronger elemental spells and teleportation runes.

Where to Find More Gothic Remake Runes
Many players get confused early on because they assume that spending Learning Points to unlock a new magic circle automatically drops a rune into their inventory. This is a common misconception! Unlocking a magic circle simply gives you the ability to equip and cast runes of that specific tier.
To actually acquire new Gothic Remake Runes, you need to explore the world. Runes can be acquired in several ways. Players can craft them at a mage workbench using blank tablets and magic ore, purchase them from guild trainers or find them as loot in chests and on defeated enemies.
Leveling Up Your Magic Circles
To advance from a novice to higher magic circles, you need to visit a magic trainer. By paying them a combination of Learning Points and ore, you will upgrade to the next tier. This allows you to wield the most devastating spells in the game.
