Underkeep Puzzle Walkthrough: Solutions & Answers

An Underkeep puzzle may be more challenging than the combat outside the room!

For example, before you shove another gargoyle into a corner, check the solution for your location below. A small detail, like a brazier’s shape, can make a substantial difference.

Gravewood Crypt Statue Puzzle and Reset

The Gravewood Crypt puzzle is a 4×4 grid with four gargoyle statues. Push each gargoyle onto a leaf-etched floor stone. To find the right squares, number the grid row by row from the top-left corner (1) to the bottom-right corner (16). The four gargoyles belong on squares 3, 5, 11, and 14.

Don’t push all four gargoyles into the center. Statues that end up next to each other in the middle block one another and can’t be pushed again, which soft-locks the puzzle.

Before patch 1.0.4, there was no way out of that state except loading an earlier save. Patch 1.0.4 added a reset button for the statues, so use it to put the gargoyles back in their starting positions and try again.

Gravewood Crypt is optional, so you can also leave it for later without blocking the main story.

Blightvein Mine Gargoyle Puzzle

In this puzzle, you must put the two gargoyles onto the floor plates. However, there is a catch here. The tricky part is the early move that puts the statues next to each other. That temporary arrangement creates room for the later pushes. Even though it looks like a fine way to trap a gargoyle.

Tip

Check the opening moves before touching either statue

Duskhollow Woods Broken Pillar Puzzle

In Duskhollow Woods, examine the green lantern in the ruins, but don’t destroy it yet. Head southeast toward the grave and pillar area, then use a Voidshard or Blue Lantern to summon an angry spirit. A Voidcaller can also summon one.

Keep the spirit alive and lead it back to the green lantern. The encounter should trigger new story text when the spirit reaches the lantern.

Chambers of Endless Sleep Brazier Puzzle

Light five braziers in total. The solitary one nearest the room entrance and the 2×2 group before the locked door. Keep every other brazier unlit. The shape of the group matters. The clue points to the four braziers in a square.

Lighting the nearest row before the door does not give you the required arrangement.

I’d mark the brazier positions on the automap before changing the flames. The solitary brazier and the square group are much easier to spot when you can see the room’s layout. If the door stays shut, check for an extra flame outside those five positions.

Sanctum of the Last Flame Symbol Order

Activate the symbol pads in the following order:

  • Flame
  • Crown
  • Eye
  • Tree
  • Serpent
Tip

The inscription describes numerical relationships, and you must follow them from lowest to highest. Crown has twice Flame’s value. Serpent sits two above Eye, while Tree plus Flame equals Serpent. Eye must also rank above Crown.

Four Points Seek One Heart Puzzle

The target is the pattern of five pips on a die: four corner points around a central point.

Read the clue with that shape in mind. A cross shape around the center is a different arrangement, which explains why a layout can look reasonable and still fail. The developer’s answer to this exact clue is “Dice number 5.”

Cells of the Forgotten Puzzles

The flame puzzles around Cells of the Forgotten use different rules. Match the room to the description below before you change anything.

Three Colored Flames

Interact with the blue flame at the gate with three differently colored flames. That opens the route toward Cells of the Forgotten.

Let No Flame Burn Your Soul

Reach the other side of the room without passing through any of the braziers. Treat the burning fixtures as obstacles and find a clear route around them. Check the next tile before each move so you do not cut through a flame. The clue describes how your party must cross the room.

Soul Forge Yellow and Purple Seal Puzzle

Each seal needs a combination of two flame colors. Use the pair that matches the seal:

SealRequired Flames
YellowRed and Green
PurpleRed and Blue
Important

The purple-looking brazier is the catch. It does not satisfy the purple seal by itself, even if its color looks close enough. Use the red-and-blue pair for that side.

Hollowgrave Tunnels Pressure Plates and Blocked Paths

Throw an item onto the distant pressure plate to cover the pit with a grate. A stone or unwanted piece of bread works in the early tunnel puzzle. The later room with several holes uses the same basic interaction: place items on the relevant plates to cover the gaps.

Keep the rubble passages separate from those plate puzzles.

Stone puzzle

Find the pickaxe on the stone shelf in the room beyond a nearby switched gate, keep it in your inventory, and click the rubble to clear the path.

Tower Level 3 Dark Room Puzzle

Enter the small room and use the switch to close the door behind you. With the room dark, find and press the nearby secret switch. The entrance door is part of the solution. If you have left it open while you search, close it before checking the walls again.
