RDR2 Item Requests

RDR2 Penny Dreadful Book Locations: How to Complete Jack’s Request

During “A Fisher of Men” in Chapter 2, little Jack Marston talks about how he lost his storybook and that’s how you trigger Jack’s Penny Dreadful request in RDR2. There are several Penny Dreadful books throughout the world and you only need to bring Jack one of them to complete the request.

Most guides mention four locations, but I present you with another possible book tied to Jack’s request that many players miss. Here are all the Penny Dreadful book locations in RDR2 and how to complete Jack’s request.

All Penny Dreadful Book Locations in RDR2

There are four different Penny Dreadful books that you can collect in different locations across the map. Jack doesn’t require any specific comic book, so here are all the Penny Dreadful book locations you can find:

Otis Miller and the Boy from New York in Pleasance

You can also find a Penny Dreadful at Pleasance, which is an abandoned schoolhouse northeast of Eris Field in Lemoyne. The comic available here is Otis Miller and the Boy from New York.

Otis Miller and the Arabian Prince in Clawson’s Rest

There’s another Penny Dreadful book at Clawson’s Rest, a cabin northwest of Valentine. Search inside the house to find Otis Miller and the Arabian Prince.

Otis Miller and the Black-Hearted Lady in Osman Grove

There’s a Penny Dreadful book located in Osman Grove, a shack northeast of Emerald Ranch. Inside the cabin, you can find Otis Miller and the Black-Hearted Lady. You can also find Mary-Beth’s fountain pen there.

Wild West Heroes No. 132 in Downes Ranch

In Downes Ranch, which is southwest of Valentine, there’s a house where you can find Wild West Heroes No. 132, another comic that counts for Jack’s request.

True Tales of Frank Heck, No. 102 in Lake Don Julio

But we’re not finished. There’s actually a fifth one. I searched for it and noticed that many guides didn’t mention this location. The official RDR2 guide says there are five possible books for Jack’s request, while many guides only mention four.

The reason is that the fifth one, True Tales of Frank Heck, No. 102, is located at the Lake Don Julio House, southeast of Armadillo by the lake.

This area is locked during Arthur’s story, as he can’t normally access it until the Epilogue. Feel free to give it a shot and let me know in the comments if it works.

How to Get Jack’s Penny Dreadful Request in RDR2

During the story mission “A Fisher of Men” in Chapter 2, where you take Jack fishing, he tells Arthur that he forgot his story book back in Blackwater. Arthur, as nice as he is, replies, “Well, I’m sure someone can get you another story book.” After that, the Penny Dreadful request pops up.

This is automatic, which means you won’t miss triggering this request unlike a lot of other camp item requests in RDR2.

How to Complete Jack’s Penny Dreadful Request

After you’ve collected any one of the Penny Dreadful comics, return to camp and speak with Jack. Choose the option to give him the item to complete the request. Jack rewards you with chocolate.

Once completed, this request contributes toward the Errand Boy trophy/achievement, which requires completing five camp companion item requests.

Jason Jenkins

Jason’s journey of countless memorable video game stories began when he was only 8 years old. Most of the time, he would play Mortal Kombat 4 on his PC after school. When night fell, it was time for the original Resident Evil 3 to scare the living daylights out of him. But he wouldn’t trade those good old days for anything. Jason is a minimalist at heart and that translates into his guide writing as well. He likes to break down gameplay mechanics into simpler parts so that the audience can find what they’re looking for in no time.
