NMS Gravitino Coil: All Improvements in the Cosmos Update

After the Cosmos update of No Man’s Sky (or, more simply, NMS), the Gravitino Coil becomes much more useful. While this item was introduced in the Remnant update, the Cosmos version gives it two new important jobs.
Now, you can collect physical salvage in deep space and clear viral mass in the infested outposts with the help of the NMS Gravitino Coil.
Here is everything you should know about the Gravitino Coil in the Cosmos update of No Man’s Sky.

Role of the Gravitino Coil in No Man’s Sky Cosmos Update
The NMS Gravitino Coil is an important item that lets you move and grab physical objects. In the Cosmos update, the roles of the Gravitino Coil are:
- Moving physical salvage while spacewalking
- Clearing viral mass at infested outposts
- Launching Salvage toward a Corvette’s Tractor Beam
- Reaching Biological resources hidden inside infested structures

Cosmos update also improves the Gravitino Coil controls and animations. In fact, I do feel a big improvement. Controlling the item is better now, and you can move objects with better handling. Moreover, the animations are really better, especially the grab mechanism that has become much simpler.
Gravitino Coil & Tractor Beam
One of the biggest uses for the Gravitino Coil involves the Corvette Tractor Beam.
While exploring deep-space locations, you can find physical pieces of salvage that need to be collected. Use your Gravitino Coil to grab the object and launch it toward the Tractor Beam installed on your Corvette.
The process is something like this: Grab salvage with the Gravitino Coil > throw it toward your Corvette > Tractor Beam collects it into the cargo hold.

Keep in mind that a Corvette is required if you want to use the Tractor Beam system to collect physical cargo. Moreover, if an object is too large to store normally, the Tractor Beam can process it for storage.
How to Use the Gravitino Coil at Infested Outposts
You will understand the worth of the Gravitino Coil while exploring the new Infested Outposts. These deep-space structures are covered in biological material called Viral mass. You need to use the Gravitino Coil to manipulate the material and clear a path farther into the outpost.
In Infested Outposts, you will find some valuable biological resources, including the Pathogen Sac, Gelatinous Fibres, and Viral Heart.

In other words, you should have the Gravitino Coil installed before attempting Biohazard Cleanup activities or exploring these locations.
Where and How to Get the NMS Gravitino Coil
As I mentioned, the NMS Gravitino Coil is not a Cosmos update item. It was introduced with the Remnant update.
You can unlock the Gravitino Coil technology at the Space Anomaly through the Multi-Tool research area. It can also be obtained from Waste Processing Plants found on the planets with Salvageable Scrap.
Once unlocked and installed on your Multi-Tool, it is ready for the new Cosmos activities.
What Changed for the Gravitino Coil in Cosmos?
Along with giving the Coil new purposes, the Cosmos update made several improvements to the technology:
- Better control handling
- improved animations
- Improved crosshair behavior
- The Gravitino Coil can now be equipped in Space Stations.

The first Cosmos hotfix also addressed visual and VR-related problems involving the Gravitino Coil.
In the Cosmos update, it has become one of the main tools for deep-space salvage and exploring Infested Outposts.
