The Welcome to Elderfield Basic Axe is a woodcutting tool (level 2) used for chopping. You can get the Basic Axe by completing Adrian’s Tentacle Cleanup task, which takes you into the Mall Back Hallways.

How to Get the Welcome to Elderfield Basic Axe
Start by finding Adrian in his apartment in Town South and accepting Tentacle Cleanup. When the task begins, Adrian gives you the Mall F1 Hallway Key.
Head to the Mall food court and use the door leading into the Mall Back Hallways.
The back hallways are not a straight walk to the Office Worker. There are two steps in between that stop most players:
- Hall Monitor. This boss blocks the route through F1. Defeating it also gives you a permanent +1 Action Point, so it is worth the fight.
- The security terminal. Use both commands here, not just one: Unlock All Electronic Doors and Request Rubble Removal in F1 Hallway. If you only use one, you will hit a blocked route later and have to walk the whole office section again.
Once inside, speak to the Office Worker and complete the Fishing Mall..? quest. This requires catching a Stalktopus from the nearby hallway pool. By completing this task, you will face the Mall Administrator.
Defeat the Mall Administrator to clear the tentacles blocking the way in Adrian’s apartment. After the fight, return to Adrian and finish the Tentacle Cleanup. The reward is Basic Axe.
Basic Axe in Welcome to Elderfield: What Is It Used for?
The Basic Axe is the Woodcutting tool (level 2). For comparison, the level 1 tool for chopping wood is called the Rusty Axe.
It chops trees faster than the Rusty Axe, but it is not the last axe you will need. Deeper in the Mall Mine, there is a tree that tells you, “You need a stronger axe to cut this tree,” so the Basic Axe is a step on the path, not the end of it.
There is no way to acquire the Basic Axe besides the Tentacle Cleanup quest. For example, it is not included in a merchant purchase, nor can you forge it with a specific recipe.
Basic Axe Bug: Not Showing Up
Here is the main point for those who couldn’t get the Basic Axe.
Keep in mind that defeating the Mall Administrator is not the final step. There is one more: return to Adrian after clearing the tentacles to complete the Tentacle Cleanup and receive the Basic Axe reward.
If you are still stuck before the boss appears, make sure you have spoken to the Office Worker in the back hallways and completed Fishing in the Mall..?, since finishing that task is what summons the Mall Administrator.
