The Bronze Protection Idol is a new item in Valheim, added in version 1.0. You will need this rare loot for upgrading Armor and Shields. Moreover, you can find it in Black Forest chests, such as ruins, Burial Chambers, and Troll Caves.
I found mine in one of the crypts in the same location. I suggest searching all the crypts for this loot.

Where to Find Valheim Bronze Protection Idol
As I mentioned earlier, you can find the Bronze Protection Idol in Black Forest chests, including:
- Ruins
- Burial Chambers
- Troll Caves
Unfortunately, there is no way to get this item from enemies or craft it. Therefore, your best option is to search the Black Forest.
How to Identify Bronze Protection Idol
The Bronze Protection Idol, like its twin (I mean the Battle version), is beaming with blue light that is a blessing or curse from the gods. It has a human-like shape and somehow reminds me of Egyptian statues.
Different Idols Can Be Found in Different Places
Idols appear in various locations scattered across the world, such as sunken ships, burial sites, and other landmarks. The specific Idol you will find depends on the biome you are exploring:
- Meadows: Wooden Idol
- Black Forest: Bronze Idol
- Swamp: Iron Idol
- Mountains: Silver Tool
- Plains: Black Metal Tool
- Mistlands: Black Marble Tool
- Ashlands: Flametal Tool
- Deep North: Bloodgold Idol
How to Use the Valheim Bronze Protection Idol in Forge of Potential
Later in the game, you can also use this item in the Forge of Potential. You can find this special forge in the Mountains.
The Forge allows you to upgrade compatible equipment beyond its normal quality threshold. To use the Forge, interact with it while carrying the Idol. This lets you choose which piece of gear to upgrade. Click on Attempt Refinement to try the upgrade.
However, this comes with a risk. A failed attempt can destroy the equipment. Moreover, a failed attempt can deal damage to you. Make sure you are topped up on health beforehand.
Each Idol pairs only with gear crafted from matching material. Therefore, a Bronze Protection Idol upgrades a Bronze Armor.
You can also use Bjorn Bear to craft different items like Paws of the Bear and Patterns.
Difference Between Bronze Battle and Protection Idol
The name itself implies the difference: Battle Idol is used for weapons, while the Protection Idol is used for armor and shields as defensive equipment.
The purpose is clear: if you need the Idol for a defensive item, get the Bronze Protection Idol!
