How Money Works in How to Fish
The loop is simple: catch a creature, kill it, sell the body, buy better gear, move to a richer island and do this whole process again. Press F to inspect anything you hold and see its value, and Q to throw it into a shopkeeper’s mouth to sell it.
The maximum money you can make is tied to progression, not to grinding one spot. A better rod, boat engine and gun all raise what you earn per catch, so follow our full island walkthrough in order.
What is The Real Multiplier?
The same fish is worth different amounts depending on how you killed it.
The following conditions stack: headshots, one-shot kills, point blank shots, no-scopes, 360 spins, quickscopes, last-bullet kills and overkills. One co-op group landed a no-scope, a headshot and a one-shot kill on the same target and reached a 2x multiplier. A clean, boring kill leaves money on the table.
This is understandable. 63.8% of players have already hit a 5x multiplier, and the sniper rifle makes it easiest since 360 no-scopes are simple to set up at range. Our gun guide covers which weapon to buy first.
Ignore any site publishing exact killscore values like “360 = 1.5x”. Nobody has verified those numbers.
Cook Everything Before You Sell It
The grill unlocks on Island 3 once you bring the Grillmaster his shark. Hold a sellable item over the flames and its cooking multiplier climbs to roughly 1.5x. Leave it too long and it turns black and worthless, so pull it early.
Keep in mind that cooking works on things that are not fish. Old weapons get the same boost, so cook your pistol before you sell it.
On the volcano island, lava replaces the grill. It cooks at a flat 1.5x with no burn timer, and volcano creatures are the most valuable in the game. Catch, dunk, sell. That is the endgame loop.
Small Things Players Learn the Hard Way
- Weight changes value. Two of the same creature can sell for different amounts.
- Piranhas do not sell. Eat them instead.
- Eat anything worth under 10. Food you catch is money you do not spend on hot dogs.
- You drop your inventory when you die, and seagulls steal loose items off the ground.
How to Unlock Rich! Millionaire
Rich! Millionaire asks you to sell something worth 100,000 or more, in one single transaction. Smaller sales do not add up, which is why so few players have it.

Stack all three systems on one item: catch a heavy, high-value volcano creature, kill it with a big killscore multiplier, drop it in lava, then sell it. Chasing 100,000 from an early-island fish will not work.
Gambling: Slots and Roulette
The casino is real, but the developer confirms no real money is involved. The slot machine takes drip creatures and pays out weapon and rod skins, including legendary ones. Roulette lets you bet a held item on a colour, and a win makes it worth more to sell.
Treat this as post-story content. Over half of all players have pulled a legendary skin, but only 13.9% have ever won on green, so do not gamble the money you need for guns and lures. Also ignore the claim that green pays 35x. That figure comes from real-world roulette, not this game.
Is there a money glitch in How to Fish?
Patch 1.0.4 fixed a bug that let players travel to islands they had not unlocked, killing one popular shortcut. Patches land every day or two, so anything exploit-shaped will likely be gone next week. The Pufferfish boss and volcano catches are the safer payday.
