How to Beat the Endacopia Chameleon Or Skip the Boss Fight

The Endacopia Chameleon is a strange boss, because you don’t actually have to fight him. You can fight or avoid him and each route gives you a different achievement. You can’t have both in the same run. So how do you pull off each route? And how do you reach him? Keep reading for the full dialogue order and the VHS puzzle solution that gates him.
What You’ll Read:
Who Is the Chameleon in Endacopia
The Chameleon is Timesville’s resident murderer. He kills the townspeople and turns their bodies into puppets. Yes, it’s as grim as it sounds. The puppets are what he fights you with. You’ll meet this guy near the end of chapter 2.
The sad thing is beating him doesn’t save Timesville. The town gets abandoned anyway because of all the supernatural activity going on there. You kill the monster and the place still dies. That is very much this game’s whole attitude.
How to Reach the Chameleon Location
The Chameleon is behind a locked door near the waterfall, and the code comes off a VHS tape you have to assemble first. This is the longest gate in Timesville. Here’s how to reach him:
How to Get the VHS Tape
Start at the small hole near the beach and look at the glowing plush inside. That’s your clue for the layout you need.
Now go to the house during the day and rearrange it so the nighttime version matches:
- Push the bowl to the left
- Fill the bowl using the microwave
- Close the bathroom mouth all the way
- Switch the television to the bird channel
- Flatten the ceiling fan
Get all five right, and you’ll come away with the VHS tape.

How to Find the VHS Tape Code
You can find the code in the image below. But if you want to get it yourself, here’s how: Head to the house at night, plug in the VHS player, and play the tape. There is a password buried in the footage. To find the password, you have to pause and rewind through it to pull the digits out.
If you don’t have the VHS player yet, that’s the cow and the Black Rose. Put the rose on Rosie’s grave, then crawl right through the dark until you hit the hidden chamber.
The Waterfall Keypad Code
Follow the dirt trail beside the waterfall, and you’ll find a hole with a keypad on the door. Punch in the code from the tape (like in the image below), and you’re in the den. Write the code down before you walk through it. So you do not have to rewatch it later.

How to Avoid the Chameleon Boss Fight (Case Closed)
The peaceful route is a conversation. He asks you questions, and you need the right answers. Check the table below for the quick correct answers.
He asks for his name. It’s written on a gravestone in the Timesville graveyard. So go read the graves before you head to the den. The name is usually Ozzie, and sometimes it’s Ollie.
From Reddit comments, I found that it changes between runs, the same way the blue guy’s insecurities do, which means the answer from your last playthrough is not guaranteed to work in this one. Check the grave every run. If the first name gets rejected, try the other one.

Here’s the order that gets you Case Closed:
| Step | What He Asks | Your Answer |
| 1 | Who are you | Ask who he is |
| 2 | His name | Type “Ozzie” (or “Ollie”) |
| 3 | What you thought of his film | Say it was impactful |
| 4 | What it was about | His story, not victims |
| 5 | What themes it had | Irony |
Get all five right, and he just walks off.
How to Beat the Chameleon Fight (No Strings Attached)
This is one of the tougher fights in the game. He attacks through three puppet bodies. You can beat him like this:
When to Block
Watch the arms. When one of them bends, that side is about to swing. So move to that side and block. Then immediately move to the other side and block again, because he usually throws a double hit.
Do not hold block the entire fight. Blocking stops your stamina from regenerating, so if you sit there turtling, you’ll never have the energy to hit back. Block right before the punch connects, then let go.
When to Punch
His openings come when parts of him lean forward. The two side arms and the middle head can each drop into a vulnerable position, and that’s your window to punch.
Take one or two hits, then back off and let stamina refill. You cannot attack on an empty bar, and getting caught mid-swing with nothing left is how this fight ends badly. Patience wins here. Rushing him does not.

Endacopia Chameleon Achievements
Decide you want to fight or avoid the Chameleon before you enter the den, because your first few dialogue picks change everything. Two Chameleon achievements depend on whether you fight or avoid him. You need at least two playthroughs to get both.
Warning: If you are going for Ending C, you have to fight every boss. Sparing the Chameleon kills that route for the run.
| Achievement | How You Get It | Players Who Have It |
| No Strings Attached | Defeated the Chameleon in battle | 30.3% |
| Case Closed | Avoided battling the Chameleon | 7.8% |
Fun Fact: Case Closed is the rarest of the three “avoid” achievements in the game, and the Chameleon is the most spared boss of the bunch. Make of that what you will. I think people just like him.
What Happens After Chameleon Encounter
Whether you fought him or talked him down, the exit is the same. A chain with a lightbulb on the end drops down in the den. Click it, and you’re pulled out of Timesville, back to the house you started in.

From there, go up to Mellow’s room, and you’ll see Clockey in the window. Fight him, then climb through the window and crawl into the Freelance Surgeon’s cave.
That’s everything you should know about Endacopia Chameleon. Did you kill or spare him? Let me know.
FAQ
The Chameleon is stalking me at night after I died to him. What is that?
That’s his ghost form, and it shows up if you died at the Chameleon and then left the den. You can banish it with the camera. Snap a photo and it goes away. This was also a softlock bug in older versions, so update the game.
The game crashed right as I beat the Chameleon. How do I fix that?
This bug happens when you finish the fight at 0 HP. It was patched in 1.02, with another Chameleon softlock fix in 1.03. If you’re on an older build, update and redo the fight.
