The Spell Brigade How to Ascend Guide (And Why You Need To)

The Spell Brigade ascension is a progression system that resets your wizard’s rank in exchange for alternate skins, different starting spells and Trial Covenants. Spell Brigade characters can have two ascensions maximum. Each ascension costs 4,000 gold and takes roughly 3 to 4 hours of dedicated farming. Keep reading to learn how to ascend and everything else you need to unlock your new skins.
What You’ll Read:
What is Ascension and How Does it Work?
Ascension resets your wizard rank for permanent rewards. It is the main long-term progression loop. Each Spell Brigade character can ascend only two times, depending on your progression or how many times you level up during a single run. The more you level up, the faster you ascend.
Note: You can ascend a character in about 3 to 4 hours to unlock a new skin and spell, but finishing the entire game’s upgrade tree (meta clear) takes about 400 hours.

How to Ascend in Spell Brigade
To ascend a wizard, you need to increase their progression and then reset their rank in exchange for upgraded badges. It takes a lot of money and time, but it’s worth it in many cases. Here is how to do it:
- Progression Triggers: Your ascension progress depends on the number of times you level up during a single run.
- The Gold Cost: Every single ascension costs exactly 4,000 gold.
- The Time Sink: From my experience, pushing a character from base to their first ascension takes about 3 to 4 hours of dedicated play.
- Speeding it Up: Playing with high Devotion levels makes your character ascend much faster. Just make sure the run is stable enough to survive the spike in difficulty.

Spell Brigade Ascension Rewards: What Do You Actually Get?
Ascending is not just for bragging rights. It offers massive gameplay changes for those rank resets. The rewards are split across your first and second ascensions.
First Ascension Rewards: New Skins and Starting Spells
Your first ascension gives you a secret alternate outfit for that specific wizard. Besides giving you a new look, these skins swap your starting spell. This opens up entirely new build setups.
Here are the alternate starting Spell Brigade ascension spells for every wizard:
- Reginald: Bell March
- Sun Mage: Chthonic Charge
- Moon Mage: Scepter Mesh
- Ludwig: Talon Slash
- Aldric: Solar Pulse
- Wizard King: Spear Barrage
- Kavin: Necro Whirl
- Maggie: Vengeful Sprout
- Hatti: Swirl Sickle
- Balthazar: Aether Beam
- Star Mage: Cardinal Runes
- Bryony: Arcane Broadsword
- Campanelli: Hex Bomb
- Pipwick: Aurora Wings
- Knelly: Rocky Road
Second Ascension Rewards: Trial Covenants and Masteries
Your second ascension unlocks Trial Covenants. These are optional difficulty modifiers that shape your run and let you farm Devotion. If you max out a spell’s level, you will unlock a new mastery tree that offers massive perks. For example, you might get a 20% cast speed buff when your health drops below 20% or another option heals you every time you level up.
How to Farm Ascension XP and Gold Fast
You need serious currency and XP to push the progression bar to the ascension threshold. Here are the most efficient ways to farm both.
The Best Gold Farming Loop
As I mentioned, you have to pay 4,000 gold every single time you ascend. To farm this fast, pick a wizard with a 10% gold bonus. Make sure your gold mastery enhancement is at its max level to double your gold from completing objectives. Load into Easy mode, clear exactly one cycle, and extract. Rinse and repeat.
Crucial Stats for XP
Mana Gain and Pickup Range are your most important stats for XP. They act as the engine for your entire run. Long routes drop way more mana than you can grab automatically. If that mana stays on the ground, your level-up speed tanks. When your levels stall, your build stops scaling and you die.
Tip: Most players make this mistake and fall for the “Endless” Trap. Skip endless mode and restart after one cycle to avoid skyrocketing XP requirements and progress more easily.
Best Builds for Spell Brigade Ascend
You need reliable builds to farm ascension progress. I suggest something stable with single-spell routes that scale fast and clear screens easily. Here’s what you should try:
The Carry Spells
The Spell Birgade Abstinence covenant is the standard for a reason. A single, overpowered magic spell with massive area coverage, like Solar Pulse, is the absolute best starting choice for safety. Swap to Falling Stars or Aether Beam if you want raw damage instead.
Build your stats around spell size, cast speed and movement. Equip some Luck to find better rare offers. Just never sacrifice your core survival stats for it.

Balancing Devotion
Devotion is the multiplier for your ascension progress. You earn it through Trial Covenants. High Devotion makes your wizard rank up insanely fast. But there is a catch. The difficulty spikes hard.
A dead run gives you absolutely nothing. Greed will ruin your farm. Covenants only offer value if you actually survive long enough to cash out. So set the Spell Brigade Devotion up to a limit you are comfortable with. Then, finish the cycle and extract.
