Florin is one of the most important links in the chain of energy in Sandustry. Half the players confuse it with Florinol, and the official wiki page for it is blank. It’s a gas, and it’s the step that turns your flower farm into energy.
What Is Florin in Sandustry?
Florin is a gas. It’s not money and it’s not a finished resource. It sits in the middle of the game’s first energy chain:
Flower → Amethelis → Dry Amethelis → Florin (gas) → Florinol (liquid) → Florinol Battery → Energy
The one thing to remember: Florin floats like steam. It rises the second it appears, and nearly every Florin problem traces back to that.
How to Make Florin
You need two things before you can make any Florin at all.
First, Amethelis. It comes from Flowers, and destroying a flower head drops 4 Amethelis and 1 Gold. If you don’t have a farm running yet, start with our Sandustry flower guide. Amethelis is a Wisp-type material, so it drifts sideways as it falls instead of dropping straight down. Build around that or you’ll lose half of it.
Second, steam. The Steam Dryer is fussy about placement: Amethelis has to touch the top of the dryer, and steam has to touch the bottom. Each conversion eats a little steam, so if your supply keeps running out, our Sandustry water guide covers keeping that loop stable. Get both right and your Amethelis becomes Dry Amethelis.
How to Turn Dry Amethelis Into Florin
Burn it. Dry Amethelis is flammable, and heating it releases Florin gas. Roughly two Dry Amethelis produce one Florin, so your input pile drains fast.
Build a sealed chamber for this. Florin rises immediately, and if there’s no ceiling above the burner, it’s gone. Dry Amethelis can be launched or pushed with an Aerokinetic Fan, the cleanest way to feed a closed chamber without opening it.
To finish the chain, cool the gas. A Condenser turns Florin into liquid Florinol. Snow works well as the cold source, but it isn’t required. Florin needs to be cold, so a Cryoblaster or another cooling method works too.
Florin vs Florinol: What’s the Difference?
- Florin is the gas you get from burning Dry Amethelis. It rises.
- Florinol is the liquid you get from cooling Florin. It pools and can be pumped.
They’re separate materials, listed under gases and liquids. If an objective asks for Florinol, Florin won’t count toward it.
What Is Florinol Used For?
Florinol is the first resource that lets you generate Energy, which unlocks at Research tier 5. Drop it in a Florinol Battery and you get 16 Energy per tile.
Here’s the part most players get confused about: Florinol isn’t consumed. When a battery runs dry the Florinol hardens, and reigniting it makes it produce energy again. Players do this manually with a Rocket Launcher or automate it with a heat source like a Pyro Dispenser.
Later, Florinol feeds a Synthesizer to make Aurixite (Aura). You have to be very careful here: a Synthesizer placed under Florinol draws power from your charging facilities on its own, and a leftover battery block also drains power and solidifies the Florinol so it stops moving. If your line keeps stalling, delete the battery block.
Why Is Florin Escaping Your Filters?
The best thing you can do is fixing the layout. Separate your Dry Amethelis intake from the burner chamber so they aren’t sharing one filter, and check whether your filter sits on a wall or a conveyor, since orientation changes how material gets displaced through it.
Tier 5 and the 10,000 Florinol Objective
Players report the Tier 5 goal asks for 10,000 Florinol produced. That figure comes from the community, not the developer, so treat it as a rough target.
The more useful detail is that Tier 5 needs two goals finished, not one: the Florinol target and Find the Anomaly. Most people stuck here already hit the Florinol number and never investigated the anomaly. Do that first. If you’ve done both and Tier 5 is still locked, that was a real bug. Patch v0.5.4 fixed it and affected saves repair themselves, so just make sure the game is up to date.
