When I first played Red Dead Redemption 2, I had no idea there would be so many hatchets scattered throughout the world. You would be surprised, too. Let’s find every single hatchet in RDR2.
What You’ll Read Here
Hunter Hatchet
You can grab the Hunter Hatchet right when you start Chapter 2. It’s north of Valentine, west of Fort Wallace, just beneath the Window Rock location on the map. It’s stuck on one of the tree stumps next to the cottage.
Double Bit Hatchet
Just like what you can see on the map, it’s northwest of the Wallace Station which is west of Valentine. There’s this tiny little black dot on the map under the bear drawing; that’s where you should be heading. Again, it’s stuck on a tree stump near a couple of fallen down trees. You can find it in Chapter 2.
Hewing Hatchet
Saddle up and head southwest of O’Creagh’s Run to a place called Moonstone Pond. It’s a really nice place to chill and take some cowboy screenshots if you’re into it. By the way, when you get there, same old story, it’s stuck on one of the tree stumps next to the cottage. Of course, you can get it in Chapter 2.
Rusted Hunter Hatchet
This time around, you travel to the southeast of O’Creagh’s Run, to the Martha’s Swain homestead; the Rusted Hunter Hatchet lies stuck on the tree stump. Can be done in Chapter 2.
Viking Hatchet
Travel north of Annesburg, right underneath the Roanoke Valley on the map; there’s this sunken place that hosts an ancient Viking tomb. Underneath the tomb, you can find the Viking Hatchet. Available right from the get-go in Chapter 2.
Rusted Double Bit Hatchet
The Rusted Double Bit Hatchet is located at the heart of Annesburg and it’s stuck somewhere, guess what? On the tree stump. Available from Chapter 2.
Hatchet
Unlike other hatchets which you can easily grab for yourself, the vanilla Hatchet becomes available at the start of Chapter 6. You can go ahead and buy it from Seamus at Emerald Ranch.
Stone Hatchet
Not everybody can get their hands on the Stone Hatchet as it requires you to complete 5 Maude Eccles missions in GTA V. Then get the Stone Hatchet as instructed in the game, which unlocks the hatchet in RDR2 as well.
Now all you have to do is travel to the Native American burial ground which is north of the Owanjila lake that’s located west of Strawberry. Go ahead and pick it up. It’s lying on the ground.
Pro Tips for Hatchet Stealth and Combat
Here’s the thing: if you throw your hatchet around, make sure to always pick it up because sometimes it’s just gone forever. Most of the time they reappear, but then again, you don’t want to lose them, that’s for sure. Hatchets are perfect for stealth, but if you’re facing a couple of crazy NPCs, then they’re slow and they can get interrupted mid-attack.
